Heidemann Smashes School Record to Lead Mountain Hawks to Seventh at Patriot League Championships

BOSTON - The Patriot League Championships concluded on Sunday with day two at Boston University. Lehigh left the meet with 28 points, placing seventh.
Alex Heidemann concluded his indoor 800 meter career in record breaking fashion. The senior earned the bronze medal and broke the school record by becoming the first Lehigh athlete to break the 1:50 barrier indoors. He ran 1:48.28 to add six points to Lehigh's total. Junior Aidan LaTourette also tallied a point in the event, running 1:56.96 with an eighth place.
The mile was the first completed event to start day two, where Dan Malatesta earned one point with an eighth place finish. The senior ran 4:12.39 to conclude his indoor college career.
Nathan Oliphant got caught on some of the hurdles which landed him in eighth in the final, but the junior locked up one point for Lehigh in the 60 meter hurdles.
Sophomore Jaden Ferguson set a new personal best mark in the high jump to place fifth. He cleared the 2.01 meter bar to score four points for the Mountain Hawks.
Eddie Moore notched one point for Lehigh in the 60 meter dash. The junior placed eighth, running 7.01.
Junior Ryan Baker placed tenth in the 3000 meter final with a personal record performance. He was the runner up in his heat, running 8:20.19. His time earns him a spot on Lehigh's all-time indoor performance list, debuting at 10th.
Senior Joseph Nowakowski took sixth in the shot put final. He scored three points for Lehigh with his 16.57-meter throw.
Daniel Givens ended his final indoor season with a season's best 13.76 meters as Lehigh's top placing triple jumper at 13th. First-year Konstantinos Panagopoulos landed just behind him in 14th, equaling his personal best mark of 13.73.
Andrew Clark earned one point for the Mountain Hawks with an eighth place finish in the heptathlon, scoring 4568 points in the event. He moved up into scoring position in the final event, where he placed fourth with a 2:49.15 1000 meter run. The junior was also carried by a personal best 7.29-second run in the 60 meter dash and a season's best 1.69 meter high jump.
Malatesta, Heidemann, Miles Brekhus, Ian Zalewski ran the second fastest distance medley relay in Lehigh history. They crossed the line in 9:58.03 to finish seventh and score two points.
The 4x400 concluded the meet, where the Mountain Hawks finished the runner up in their heat to score a point for Lehigh. The team of LaTourette, Peter Priestner, Logan Haverkamp, and Nick Bressi placed eighth, running 3:22.58.
Navy scored 218 points to champion the meet.
