Mountain Hawks Score Seven on Day One of Patriot League Championships

BOSTON - The Patriot League Championships kicked off on Saturday at Boston University. After the first of two days, Lehigh sits in sixth place with seven points.
The pole vault final commenced the meet on the men's seide. Sayyidakbar Akbarov earned one point for the Mountain Hawks by placing eighth. The 4.70 meter bar was the highest the sophomore cleared.
The mile began the events on the track. Senior Dan Malatesta lowered his personal record by five-seconds to advance to tomorrow's final. He ran 4:07.64, making him the fourth fastest indoor miler in Lehigh history.
Peter Priestner was Lehigh's fastest in the 400 meter run with his 20th place finish. The sophomore ran 49.94, marking the first time he went below the 50 second mark.
Both of Lehigh's 800 meter runners set personal best times to qualify for tomorrow's final. Senior Alex Heidemann's time of 1:50.49 makes him the second fastest half-miler in Lehigh history, and ranked him fourth in the field. Aidan LaTourette took the eighth and final spot to advance. The junior lowered his personal record by over two seconds down to 1:52.20, which debuts him at seventh on Lehigh's all-time indoor performance list for the event.
Junior Ryan Baker was Lehigh's top finisher in the 5000 meter final. He ran 14:51.34, coming 18th.
Nathan Oliphant ran a personal best time in the 60 meter hurdles to qualify for tomorrow's final as the fifth ranked hurdler. The junior crossed at 8.27, which moved him up one spot to sixth on the performance list. Eddie Moore also qualified for the final of the flat 60 meter race with a new personal best. He earned an automatic qualifier by placing second in his heat with a 6.86-second run. Moore also placed 21st in the 200 with a 22.21-second run.
Two more field finals took place in the latter half of the meet. In the long jump final, sophomore Jaden Ferguson added three points to Lehigh's total by ranking sixth. He jumped 6.99 meters, which ties his season's best. First-year Chance Stuart was Lehigh's top thrower in the weight throw. He threw 16.38 and placed 11th.
Day one concluded with the running of the 4x800 relay. The team of LaTourette, Max Leffler, Miles Brekhus, and Ian Zalewski ran 7:39.84 to finish sixth and score three points.
Sunday's events will begin at 11 a.m. and will conclude Lehigh's indoor season. All Patriot League Championships sessions will be aired on ESPN+.
