First-Years Shine At Virginia Challenge, Coach Pollard Invitational

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Lehigh first-years enjoyed a big weekend as the Mountain Hawks competed in two meets – the Virginia Challenge in Charlottesville, Va., and Moravian's Coach Pollard Invitational. The trio of Jaden Ferguson, Jaden Green and Harry Keen combined for four all-time top 10 additions, while Lehigh athletes won four events across the two meets.
 
VIRGINIA CHALLENGE
On Friday, Ferguson set a new PR and moved into seventh all-time at Lehigh in the long jump, with a leap of 7.16m. Ferguson came back on Saturday and won the open high jump, clearing 2.06m to tie for seventh place all-time. One of the athletes Ferguson is now tied all-time with is senior Skyler Mott, who competed in the invitational high jump and tied for ninth place, clearing 2.01m.
 
Keen threw the javelin 66.05m to move into third place all-time at Lehigh. He finished in third place. Junior Wil Jaques finished fourth with a throw of 65.53m and senior Greg Stagliano finished sixth with a throw of 62.36m.
 
Junior Joe Nowakowski threw a season-best 15.61m in the shot put, while senior Liam Lovering threw the discus 45.78m and finished in 21st place.
 
Junior Adam Barbato finished 10th in the 3000m steeplechase with a time of 9:15.61. Senior Aidan Lynch finished 22nd in the 1500m (3:53.55) while junior Alex Heidemann ran 4:06.38 in the 1500m and 1:54.51 in the 800m. Senior Patrez Thomas competed in the 400m hurdles, clocking in at 55.13.
 
COACH POLLARD INVITATIONAL
Sprints/Hurdles

Green qualified for the finals in the 100m, running 11.00 flat in the preliminaries. He then ran a 10.71 in the finals to finish second, moving into third place all-time at Lehigh. Green also posted a PR in the 200m, finishing third with a time of 22.22. Sophomores David Sedrak (22.50) and Gabriel Mays-Sanchez (23.94) also posted PRs in the 200.
 
Three Mountain Hawks made the finals in the 110m hurdles, led by senior Jonathan Bennett who finished second. Bennett ran 14.57 in the prelims and 14.58 in the finals. Sophomore Nathan Oliphant qualified fifth with a time of 14.92 before finishing fourth in the finals (15.02). Senior Gideon Coprivnicar ran a PR 15.58 in the preliminaries.
 
First-year Austin Iburg led three runners in the 400m with a PR of 51.18. Sophomore Logan Haverkamp ran a 1:05.45 in the 400m hurdles.
 
Green, Sedrak, first-year Tyler VerSchure and sophomore Aidan DiBuono ran a 42.24 in the 4x100 relay. In the 4x400, sophomore Aidan LaTourette, senior Ethan Hood, first-year Peter Priestner and junior Dan Malatesta ran a 3:25.17.
 
Mid-Distance/Distance
Lehigh went 1-2-3 in the 5000m, led by first-year Ben Connell, who posted a PR of 14:55.27. Classmate Will Mrozinski ran 15:16.01 to finish second, while sophomore Thomas Smigo (15:20.62) took third.
 
Malatesta led five Lehigh runners in the 1500m, taking first place with a time of 3:57.17. Sophomore Danny Walter (4:01.96) and first-year Isaac Greene (4:03.11) posted PRs.
 
LaTourette won the 800m with a PR of 1:54.08, while Pristner ran 1:55.05 to finish fourth.
 
Sophomore Derek Coceano finished second in the 3000m steeplechase with a PR time of 9:36.24. Junior Conor Malinger (9:40.21) finished third.
 
Jumps
Coprivnicar led Lehigh in the long jump, with a leap of 6.18m. Senior Jordan Layos led the Mountain Hawks in the triple jump (13.35m) and leapt 5.93m in the long jump. Junior Daniel Givens posted a mark of 12.66m in the triple jump and 5.92m in the long jump.
 
First-year Neves Hoose cleared 1.84m to finish seventh and lead three Lehigh athletes in the high jump.

Sophomore Eli Johnson cleared a personal best 4.45m to finish second in the pole vault. First-year Sayyidakbar Akbarov finished third, clearing 4.30m.
 
Throws
First-year Aaron Humes finished second in the discus with a PR throw of 45.02m. Humes also threw the shot put 11.05m. First-year Adam Klinge posted PRs in the discus (42.85m) and the hammer (36.30m). Klinge finished fourth in the discus.
 
Senior Hunter Rodarmel led five throwers in the javelin, with a throw of 55.26m. Sophomore Gavin Chamberlain threw 54.92m to finish fifth.
 
Senior Ethan McHugh was tops for Lehigh in the hammer, taking sixth with a throw of 43.25m.
 
Another two meet weekend awaits the Mountain Hawks next weekend. Lehigh will send select athletes to the Penn Relays, beginning Thursday in Philadelphia. Lehigh will also host the Carol and John Covert Classic Friday-Saturday on the Goodman Campus.
