
Mountain Hawks to face Boston University in Patriot League quarterfinal Friday

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Lehigh men's tennis team will open up Patriot League Tournament play on Friday with a quarterfinal matchup against Boston University on Bucknell's Varsity Tennis Courts. The Mountain Hawks closed out the regular season with back-to-back league wins to earn the No. 6 seed in the tournament and will face the third seeded Terriers in Friday's third quarterfinal, beginning at approximately 3 p.m.
The Mountain Hawks are coming off of two strong wins last week, a 4-3 victory against Colgate on Saturday and a 7-0 win against Lafayette on Monday. Lehigh completed the regular season at 12-9 overall and 3-3 in the Patriot League.
Seniors Ben Gilman and Mitchell Petersen led the way for Lehigh in the win over Lafayette. In their final home matches, Gilman won at doubles and singles for career wins 100 and 101 in the Brown and White, while Petersen clinched Lehigh's seventh straight win over the Leopards with his win at No. 4 singles.
Petersen has been Lehigh's top singles player in 2015 with a 14-7 record, including a 6-0 Patriot League regular season mark. Right behind Petersen are junior Jeremy Kochman and sophomore Ethan Bogard, who both own 13-7 singles marks. Gilman is 8-12 at the top flight but won four of six Patriot League regular season singles matches.
Lehigh's singles lineup should feature Gilman at the No. 1 position, Kochman at No. 2, freshman Jack Petersen at No. 3, Mitchell Petersen at No. 4 and Bogard at No. 5. Sophomore Tyler Hansen played No. 6 singles in Lehigh's first five league matches, while classmate Colin Nardella played No. 6 and earned a win versus Lafayette.
In doubles, the Mountain Hawks have utilized the same three pairings for most of the season. Gilman and Kochman are expected to play at the top flight. They have gone 10-7 as a team. Mitchell Petersen and Bogard should play No. 2 doubles, while Jack Petersen is expected to play at No. 3 with sophomore Graham Lehman. The four players on Lehigh's bottom two teams all have nine doubles wins this season.
Boston University claimed the No. 3 seed with a 6-6 overall record and a 3-1 league mark. The Terriers last played on April 12 when they defeated Connecticut 6-1. In the Patriot League BU defeated Colgate, Lafayette and Holy Cross and suffered its only loss to top seed Army.
Lehigh and Boston University last met in men's tennis in 2010, with the Mountain Hawks claiming a 6-1 win in Boston. The Terriers are in their second year in the Patriot League.

Friday's match is scheduled for a 3 p.m. start from Lewisburg, Pa. The winner of the Lehigh-BU match will face the winner between No. 2 Navy and No. 7 Loyola in Saturday's semifinal beginning at 2 p.m. Sunday's championship match is slated for a noon start.
