BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Coming off of a valuable but difficult spring break trip that saw the Mountain Hawks go 1-3, the men's tennis team will look to get back on track this week as Lehigh plays host to Villanova on Wednesday and Delaware on Saturday.
The 7-5 Mountain Hawks posted a 6-3 win over St. Cloud State on their spring break trip but dropped matches to tough squads from Stetson, Creighton and Valparaiso.
Freshman Jack Petersen led the Mountain Hawks over spring break, going 3-0 at No. 3 singles. Petersen is now 5-0 since moving to the No. 3 flight and 6-4 overall in singles this season.
Junior Jeremy Kochman and sophomore Ethan Bogard lead the Mountain Hawks with 8-3 singles records. Kochman and top singles and doubles player senior Ben Gilman are looking to bounce back as Kochman suffered his first three singles losses of the season while Gilman looks to rebound from a 3-8 start at the top flight.
Villanova has struggled so far this season. The Wildcats currently sit at 2-9 and haven't won since February 22, when they defeated Delaware. In their last match, Villanova lost a tight match to Hartford by the score of 4-3. Last year Lehigh defeated Villanova 6-1.
Delaware is also enduring a difficult season. The Blue Hens are still looking for their first win of the season as they are 0-10 thus far. Most recently, Delaware fell at Navy 6-1 on March 7. The Blue Hens have also lost to Patriot League member Bucknell and were the victims of Villanova's most recent win. Last season, the Mountain Hawks squeaked past Delaware 4-3.
Wednesday's Lehigh-Villanova match is set for a 4 p.m. start from the Lewis Tennis Center, while Saturday's Lehigh-Delaware tilt will begin at 2 p.m.
