Mountain Hawks return to home courts with 4-3 win over Villanova

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Lehigh men's tennis team returned to the Lewis Tennis Center with a 4-3 victory over Villanova Wednesday afternoon. The Mountain Hawks won two doubles matches to claim the doubles point and split the six singles matches with the Wildcats to improve to 8-5 overall.
The Mountain Hawks never trailed in the match but Villanova battled to stay within striking distance before sophomore Tyler Hansen clinched the match for Lehigh with a 6-2, 6-4 win over Alastair Hurry at No. 6 singles.
In doubles play, Lehigh's No. 3 team of freshman Jack Petersen and sophomore Graham Lehman opened things with an 8-3 win over Tim Abbraciamento and William Elmore. The Mountain Hawks' top team of senior Ben Gilman and junior Jeremy Kochman clinched the doubles point with an 8-5 win over Kelly Donaldson and Mark Miller. Villanova prevented a doubles sweep with an 8-5 win at the No. 2 flight.
The Wildcats evened the match at 1-1 as Chris Seitz beat Kochman in straight sets at No. 2 singles before senior Mitchell Petersen put Lehigh back in front with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Abbraciamento at No. 4 singles.
Jack Petersen extended Lehigh's lead, rallying from a set down to defeat Bradley Noyes in three sets at No. 3 singles. The match at No. 1 singles also went three sets with Gilman coming up on the short end of a 1-6, 6-3, 6-7 score against Miller.
With Villanova within 3-2, Hansen's win clinched the match for the Mountain Hawks. Villanova's Matt Phelps won a ten point tiebreak against Bogard to close out the match.
The Mountain Hawks will return to action on Saturday when they welcome Delaware to the Lewis Tennis Center for a 2 p.m. match.
