Lehigh men to open fall season this weekend at Colgate Invitational

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The Lehigh men's golf team opens up its fall season this weekend at the Colgate Invitational in Hamilton, N.Y. The Mountain Hawks will look for a strong start to the fall season as they return all but one player from last year's third at the Patriot League Championship.

Leading the way for the Mountain Hawks are senior Carlos Kim and junior Harley Abrams who both earned second team All-Patriot League honors last season. Kim finished sixth at the Patriot League Championship while Abrams tied for eighth, starting strong with a first round 69 before closing with a 73 and 79.

The Mountain Hawks' lone loss to graduation was Alex DiClemente, who battled through injury last spring and finished 38th at the league championship, after finishing third overall and earning first team All-Patriot League honors.

Other returners for Lehigh include senior Zach Allinson, who tied for 29th at last year's league championship, juniors Johnny Heydt and David Olexson and sophomore Brendan Worthy. Olexson saved his best for last at the end of last season, finishing third among Lehigh players at the league championship (23rd overall) after winning the intrasquad qualifier for the final spot in Lehigh's championship lineup.

The lone freshman on coach Henry D'Alberto's squad is Billy Johns from Johns Creek, Ga.

The Mountain Hawks have enjoyed success at the Colgate Invitational in recent years, finishing third out of 14 teams last year and second of nine in 2012. Abrams led Lehigh on both occasions, finishing second in his college debut two years ago and tying for fourth last year.

The Colgate Invitational is a 54-hole event with 36 holes scheduled for Saturday and 18 for Sunday from the Seven Oaks Golf Club. Participating teams include Army, Binghamton, Bucknell, Canisius, Fordham, La Salle, Lafayette, Niagara, Rider, Siena, St. Bonaventure and Wagner in addition to Lehigh and Colgate.

After this weekend's Colgate Invitational, Lehigh will play in the Rutgers Invitational on September 19-20 and the Tuxedo Autumn Invitational hosted by Columbia September 26-27. The annual Presidents' Cup head-to-head match play event between Lehigh and Lafayette is set for October 14 in Gladstone, N.J., while the Mountain Hawks will conclude their falls season at the Lehigh Invitational on the Grace Course at Saucon Valley Country Club, October 18-19.

Lehigh's spring schedule will be announced at a later date but the Mountain Hawks will return to the Seven Oaks Golf Club when Colgate hosts the Patriot League Championship April 25-26.
