
Mountain Hawks return from layoff to host two matches this weekend

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Lehigh men's tennis team will return to action after a 12-day layoff when they host the Villanova Wildcats inside the Lewis Tennis Center this Saturday at 10 a.m. The Mountain Hawks will also host Niagara Sunday at 2 p.m.
The Mountain Hawks fell to 6-4 on the season after losing 4-1 to Bryant in their last match before spring break on March 2.
Lehigh opened up strong against Bryant with a win at No. 1 doubles by junior Ben Gilman and sophomore Jeremy Kochman. The No. 3 doubles team of senior Timur Chernykh and freshman Mitchell Petersen clinched the doubles point, but then Lehigh dropped four singles matches in a row to give Bryant the victory.
The Mountain Hawks were without senior Mark Goldberg and junior Mitchell Petersen in singles play and the two bottom singles matches did not finish.
Kochman leads the Mountain Hawks with six singles wins and also is 6-3 in doubles alongside Gilman who leads the team with seven doubles victories.
The Wildcats stand at 0-7 this season and are coming off a 0-4 west coast road trip over spring bream. In Villanova's last match of the road trip against UC Riverside, junior Tim Abbracciamento at the No. 6 singles slot earned the Wildcats' lone point in a 6-1 loss.
Villanova senior Thomas O'Brien plays at No. 1 singles and earned All-BIG EAST accolades after winning 20 doubles and 20 singles matches in 2013.
Niagara comes to town on Sunday afternoon. The Purple Eagles bring a 6-5 record into their MAAC opener on Friday at Rider. Niagara has faced two Patriot League foes this season, falling 7-0 to Army and defeating Colgate 6-1.
Following this weekend's matches Lehigh will host Temple, Thursday at 4 p.m. inside the Lewis Tennis Center.
