Relays, Schuck earn All-East honors

BOSTON, Mass. – Lehigh’s men’s and women’s 4x800 meter relays and sophomore E.J. Schuck earned All-East distinctions on Sunday as the Mountain Hawk men competed in the IC4A Championships at Boston University and the women in the ECAC Championships at Reggie Lewis Track. Both relay teams finished fourth overall, while Schuck placed sixth in the heptathlon. Senior Jenni Schappert and freshman Franklin Johnson also competed for Lehigh on Sunday.

In Saturday’s trials, the relay team of sophomores Jennifer Therkorn, Shannon Alejandro and Sarah Serwo and freshman Jillian Randolph smashed their school record in order to advance to Sunday’s race. In the 4x800 finals, the quartet set another school record by finishing in a time of 9:06.63 and edging out William & Mary by .05 of a second for fourth place.

The men’s 4x800 meter relay team of seniors Greg Horn and Kevin Ahearn, junior Kyle Manning and sophomore Garrett Zambrows finished in a time of 7:38.91, which was nearly a minute faster and one place higher than Lafayette’s relay team.

Schuck scored a career-high 4635 points in the heptathlon. He set personal records in the shot put (35’6¾”), high jump (6’4”) and 1000 meter run (2:53.63) as well as tied his personal record in the 60 meter dash (7.05).

Schappert was the only Mountain Hawk on the women’s side to compete in an individual event. She ran in the 3000 meter run and finished 18th in a time of 10:01.51. Meanwhile, Johnson placed 11th overall in the triple jump with a mark of 46’3¼”.
