BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Vandergrift Family Head Football Coach Rich Nagy has announced the addition of Chip Taylor to the Lehigh football coaching staff. Taylor will serve as Lehigh's Special Teams Coordinator, while also coaching the Mountain Hawks' safeties.
Taylor comes to Lehigh following 13 seasons at Hamline University in St. Paul, Minnesota, the last 10 of which he served as head coach. In addition to his head coach responsibilities, Taylor served as Hamline's special teams coordinator. He was the Pipers' defensive coordinator prior to taking over the head coaching position in 2016.
In his decade leading Hamline, Taylor coached 22 first or second team All-MIAC honorees and mentored HU's first Academic All-American since 1998.
Taylor brings familiarity with Patriot League football, having coached at Bucknell for three seasons. He served as special teams coordinator and cornerbacks coach from 2010-12. At Bucknell, Taylor coached cornerback Bryce Robertson to All-America honors after leading the nation with 13 interceptions in 2011. In his first season in Lewisburg, Taylor coached Josh Eden, who set a NCAA record with eight blocked kicks.
Prior to his stint at Bucknell, Taylor had two stints, covering six seasons on staff at Valparaiso and also spent the 2025 campaign as the wide receivers coach at Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology. Taylor started as a graduate assistant at Valpo working with the wide receivers. After his season at Rose-Hulman, Taylor returned to Valparaiso, spending three seasons as special teams coordinator and secondary coach, before moving to the offensive side in 2009 where he coached quarterbacks and was the co-offensive coordinator.
In addition to his college coaching resume, Taylor participated in the NFL's Bill Walsh Coaching Fellowship with the Arizona Cardinals (2008), Kansas City Chiefs (2009) and Pittsburgh Steelers (2023).
A Willingboro, N.J., native, Taylor is a 2002 graduate of Illinois State University, with a degree in physical education. Taylor was a three year letter winner, spending time on offense, defense and as a punt returner, and was part of two conference championship teams, including the 1999 squad that reached the Division I-AA semifinals.
