Mountain Hawks Top Fordham 27-6 For Eighth Straight Win

BRONX, N.Y. – Behind three rushing touchdowns and another strong defensive effort, No. 7 Lehigh moved to 8-0 on the season with a 27-6 victory over Fordham Saturday at Moglia Stadium. The Mountain Hawks allowed just 277 yards of offense, 72 of which came on one play in the fourth quarter, and a season-low six points as Lehigh moved to 3-0 in the Patriot League.
Lehigh allowed just 74 rushing yards and added five more sacks to its league-leading ledger. Sophomore quarterback Hayden Johnson threw for a career-high 267 yards and rushed for the game's first touchdown.
Seniors Brycen Edwards and Tyler Ochojski both had 1.5 sacks, with Edwards finishing with a team-best 13 tackles and Ochojski finishing with eight.
The Mountain Hawks won at Fordham and moved to 3-0 in the Patriot League for the first time since 2019.
Lehigh received the opening kickoff and drove into Fordham territory before senior Nick Garrido came on to kick a 36-yard field goal to give the Mountain Hawks an early 3-0 lead.
The game remained 3-0 into the second quarter. Fordham's best drive of the early going reached 4th-and-1 at Lehigh's 21, but Ochojski and senior Jasuah Philemon stopped Ricky Parks for no gain, giving Lehigh the ball back.
The Mountain Hawks took advantage with a 14-play, 79-yard drive. Junior Luke Yoder converted a 4th-and-2 with a three-yard run and followed with three more strong rushes to get into the Fordham red zone. Johnson scored on a one-yard rush to give Lehigh a 10-0 lead which stood into halftime.
After stopping Fordham on its first possession of the third quarter, Lehigh went down the field and scored on its first drive of the second half. A 28-yard completion to sophomore Matt D'Avino and a 30-yard pass to senior Geoffrey Jamiel set up a seven-yard Yoder touchdown run, extending Lehigh's lead to 17-0.
On Lehigh's next possession, its was sophomore Jaden Green breaking off a 19-yard rush that set up a one-yard touchdown run to put the Mountain Hawks up 24-0.
Fordham scored its only points on a one-yard Gunnar Smith rush late in the third quarter, with Lehigh stopping the two point conversion try on the third attempt after two penalties.
The Rams got the ball back and looked to cut further into Lehigh's lead after Smith hit Jack Betten for a 72-yard catch-and-run with senior Mason Moore making a touchdown-saving tackle. Fordham had 1st-and-goal from the Lehigh 8 but was unable to cash in, as sophomore Luke Denny broke up a fourth down pass attempt in the end zone.
Garrido kicked a 22-yard field goal with 1:50 remaining to close out the scoring.
Johnson was 17-of-26 for 267 yards and also rushed six times for 28 yards. Yoder led the ground game with 79 yards on 16 carries, while Green added 47 on 12 rushes.
Jamiel caught six passes for 85 yards, while junior Mason Humphrey had 84 yards on four receptions.
Smith completed 17-of-32 for 203 yards for the Rams.
Lehigh's defense was credited with eight pass breakups and five QB hurries.
