BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Lehigh's Vandergrift Family Head Football Coach Rich Nagy has announced the elevation of Alex Buchert to Tight Ends Coach for the Mountain Hawks. Buchert spent the last three seasons as an offensive quality control coach at Lehigh, where he assisted with the offensive line.
Â
Buchert's first three seasons on staff have been highlighted by Lehigh's back-to-back Patriot League championships in 2024 and 2025. Over the last two seasons, Lehigh has led the Patriot League and ranked in the top 10 nationally in both rushing offense and fewest sacks allowed. The Mountain Hawks set a school record rushing for total rushing yards in 2025, gaining 3,002, highlighted by four 300-yard rushing games.
Â
Lehigh offensive linemen have garnered five All-Patriot League honors over the last two seasons, with right guard Langston Jones earning back-to-back first team laurels, Aidan Palmer recognized at both tackle and guard and George Padezanin earning honors at center. All three linemen have received All-America honors from the Associated Press over the last two seasons.
Â
Buchert came to Lehigh in 2023 following three seasons as the assistant offensive line coach/tight ends coach at Kutztown University. He was on staff for Kutztown's 2021 PSAC championship and Division II NCAA quarterfinal appearance with the Golden Bears going 19-5 in 2021 and 2022. He worked with a top three rushing offense in the PSAC that amassed 4,579 rushing yards and 45 touchdowns, averaging 178 rushing yards per game.
Â
A Robesonia, Pa., native, Buchert was a three-year letter winner and two-year starter at guard at Bloomsburg University. In 2012, Buchert was part of an offensive line that ranked fifth in Division II in rushing offense and set a PSAC record for rushing yards with 3,789 that still stands.
