ROCK HILL, S.C. – Lehigh’s men’s and women’s track and field teams took part in two meets on Saturday as the Mountain Hawks wrapped up competition at the Asics/Winthrop Invitational at Irwin Belk Track and Field Complex and competed at the Muhlenberg Invitational.  Both meets were unscored.  Sophomore Sarah Serwo’s time in the 800m run at the Asics/Winthrop Invitational not only placed first, but also set a new program record.  Meanwhile junior Ali Sanchez and freshman Ken Burgess each placed first in their events at the Muhlenberg Invitational

Serwo’s time of 2:12.55 was four seconds faster than the second place finisher as she broke Karen Welby’s ’06 record that was set at last year’s Patriot League Championship meet.

In addition to Serwo, sophomore Shannon Alejandro had a top performance for the Mountain Hawk women as she placed second in the 1500m run with a time of 4:42.29.

On the men’s side, junior Mark Mattei had the Mountain Hawks second top-three finish in a throwing event.  Mattei placed second in the javelin with a mark of 162’1”.  On Friday, freshman Nick Ray won the shot put with a 50’ throw.

In the running events, sophomore Garrett Zambrows and junior Kyle Manning placed second and fifth, respectively, in the 800m run.  Zambrows finished in a time of 1:52.34, while Manning completed the race in a time of 1:54.73.  Sophomore Ben Lampi finished fifth in the 1500m run with a time of 4:08.23.

On the women’s side at the Muhlenberg Invitational, Sanchez was the only competitor to run sub-19:00 in the 5000m run.  Sanchez won the race with a time of 18:57.81.  Sophomores Elizabeth Robinson and Laura O’Donnell finished third and fifth, respectively, in the 1500m run, while in the 800m run freshman Caroline Schwarzkopf and junior Ashley DeAcetis were second and fourth, respectively.

On the men’s side, Burgess won the 5000m run in a time of 15:16.83 as the Mountain Hawks placed all six of their runners in the event in the top ten.  Junior Richard Little and freshman Matt Tedrick both placed fifth in the 800m and the 1500m runs, respectively.
