BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Lehigh and Lafayette met in its annual dual meet Friday night at Rauch Field House, and for the second straight year, the Leopards narrowly edged out the Mountain Hawks.  The Lehigh men were defeated 92-86, while the women fell 99-82.  Overall, the Brown and White won 13 different events over the course of the evening.  One school record was tied on the night, when Ashlee Atwell and Emily Roth both cleared 3.45 meters in the pole vault.  The height tied Roth’s record that she set last year at the Patriot League Championships.

On the men’s side, Scott Robinson won the 500 meter dash, with a time of 1:06.57, the eight best time in school history.  Kyle Manning followed that up with a victory in the 1,000 meter run.  The senior captain finished in 2:30.91, missing the IC4A qualifying mark by less than one second.  His finishing time was also just 0.48 seconds off his personal best.

In the 3,000 meter run, Lehigh came away with a clean sweep, taking the top three spots.  Jon Wetzel was first overall, with a time of 8:51.10 and not far behind were Dan McClimon (8:51.91) and Ben Lampi (8:53.10).

Brian Voorhis came in second place in the 60 meter hurdles, but finished with a personal best time of 8.43, just 0.04 seconds behind first place finisher Sifiso Takirambudde of Lafayette.

In the field events, E.J. Schuck came away with first place finishes in the high jump (1.88 meters) and the long jump (6.83 meters).  Khalil Uqdah continued his dominate performance in the pole vault, taking first for the third straight meet, with a height of 4.95 meters.  The Mountain Hawks also took first and second in the weight throw.  Mark Mattei won with a distance of 15.73 meters, while Nick Ray was second, throwing 15.59 meters.

On the women’s side, Sarah Serwo captured two races on the night.  She finished first in the 400 meter dash (1:00.55) and had a personal best in the 1,000 meter run (3:03.96).  The Mountain Hawks had several top finishers in both the 500 meter and 800 meter races.  Jen Therkorn (1:20.08) won the 500, while Shannon Alejandro (2:24.24) took first in the 800.

Lehigh’s 4x400 meter relay team won its race, with a time of 4:18.20, finishing 32 seconds ahead of the Leopards’ squad.

In addition to Atwell and Roth’s excellence in the field events, Kathryn McLaughlin just missed setting a new record in the high jump.  McLaughlin set a new career best height of 1.65 meters, which is tied for second all-time at Lehigh, and just 0.04 meters off the all-time mark.

The teams will be back in action next weekend, with a pair of meets on the schedule.  The New Balance Invite in New York City starts on February 8, while the Cornell Open takes place on February 9.
