Mountain Hawks sixth in preseason poll

The Mountain Hawks are led by senior captain Randall Smalley, a 2005 All-Patriot League performer and return five of six starting singles players from a year ago. Lehigh will have to replace top singles and doubles player and former Patriot League Scholar-Athlete of the Year Ty Esler, who graduated in May. Lehigh finished with an 8-11 record in 2005 and a 2-4 mark in league matches. The Mountain Hawks however were very competitive as they lost very close matches to Patriot League Tournament qualifiers Army, Navy and Colgate.
Defending tournament champion Army was voted into the top spot as the Black Knights garnered nine of a possible 14 first place votes. Regular-season champion American was picked second, six points behind the Black Knights.
Lehigh will open the 2006 season on Saturday, February 4 when they welcome UMBC and Fairleigh Dickinson to the
