Mountain Hawks finish up at Head of the Charles

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Lehigh concluded action at the 2008 Head of the Charles Regatta on Sunday as the Mountain Hawks had a pair of entries, including the men’s varsity 8 in the collegiate eight race and the women’s varsity lightweight 8 race. In the men’s competition, the Brown and White placed 13th out of 38 entries, crossing in a time of 15:47.104, while the lightweight women crossed in 11th place with a time of 18:31.052.
In the women’s race, Lehigh defeated crews from Radcliffe, Patriot League foe Holy Cross, and Princeton, and were only three seconds off the seventh place finisher, MIT. The Lehigh men defeated crews from Loyola, Georgia Tech, Boston College, North Carolina, Johns Hopkins, Minnesota, Army and Rhode Island.
On Saturday, the women’s varsity 8 crew had a great showing in the club eight race, finishing ninth out of 45 entries. The Mountain Hawks defeated every college it raced, except national power Yale. The Brown and White finished in a time 18:00.860, and in the process defeated the likes of Alabama, Lafayette, Boston College, Northeastern, Villanova, Radcliffe, MIT, Marist, Holy Cross and Army.
In the men’s club eight race, Lehigh’s second varsity 8 finished in a time of 16:11.78, which placed the Mountain Hawks 26th out of 69 entries in a strong field. Lehigh defeated crews from numerous rowing clubs, as well as crews from Northeastern, Lafayette, Vermont, Delaware, North Carolina, Navy, and Boston University to name a few. Harvard won the race.
