Lehigh finishes action at Navy Day Regatta

PHILADELPHIA – Lehigh sent six crews to the 2008 Navy Day Regatta on Saturday, which took place on the Schuylkill River. Among the Mountain Hawks entries were the Men’s College Frosh/Novice Eight, the Women’s College Frosh/Novice Eight, the Men’s JV College Eight, the Women’s Dad Vail Eight, the Men’s College Eight and the Women’s College Eight.
In the men’s frosh/novice college eight race, the Mountain Hawks finished in a time of 14:41.40, which placed the Brown and White in ninth place out of 22 entries. St. Joseph’s won the race. In the men’s JV eight race, the Mountain Hawks finished in fifth place with a time of 14:33.80, while Navy won the race. The men’s varsity 8 finished in a time of 14:06.00 in one of the tightest races of the afternoon, which was 11th overall, and nearly 20 seconds better than Lafayette. The Mountain Hawks were only seven seconds off of a top-six finish.
On the women’s side, the varsity 8 crew finished sixth, crossing in a time of 16:05.60. The Mountain Hawks defeated crews from Temple, Rutgers, Army, Lafayette, Delaware and Georgetown, while Navy won the race. The women’s frosh/novice eight crew placed fifth overall in its race out of 20 entries with a time of 16:51.40, with Penn taking first place in 16:00.70, while in the women’s Dad Vail eight race, the Brown and White finished fifth with a time of 16:26.20. Lehigh was just nine seconds off a top-three finish.
Lehigh returns to the water on Saturday, October 18 when the Mountain Hawks travel to Boston to compete at the prestigious Head of the Charles Regatta, one of the world’s largest regattas.
