DMR Sets School Record At Penn Relays, Lehigh Hosts Covert Classic

BETHLEHEM, Pa. –  A busy weekend for the Lehigh track and field teams saw the Mountain Hawks send athletes to the prestigious Penn Relays, Thursday-Friday in Philadelphia before the Mountain Hawks hosted the Carol and John Covert Classic Friday-Saturday on the Goodman Campus. The weekend was highlighted by a school record, five all-time top 10 additions and eight event wins at the Covert Classic.

PENN RELAYS
Junior Grace Kennedy kicked off action Thursday by running the 400m hurdles in 1:00.00 setting a new PR and improving on her second all-time mark. Senior Savanah Beavers clocked in at 11:09.07 in the 3000m steeplechase.

Friday action in Philadelphia was highlighted by a school record in the Distance Medley Relay, with seniors Lauryn Heskin and Svea Wickelgren and juniors Amber Barrios and Abby Klebe running 11:25.33 to finish second, eclipsing the mark that held for eight years by more than 12 seconds.

The 4x100m relay team of Kennedy, senior Stephanie Webb, sophomore Kasey White and junior Gianna Mangili ran 47.85 to qualify second for the finals. The 4x400m relay team of White and first-years Jade Sanders, Lauren Bower and Lanae Carrington finished 12th with a time of 3:52.13.

In Friday field action, junior Grace Aggen finished fourth in the discus (47.07m) and seventh in the shot put (14.18m). Senior Lillian Mauger finished ninth in the long jump with an effort of 5.64m. First-year Meghan Miller threw the javelin 39.17m.

COVERT CLASSIC
Throws
First-year Peyton Lewis finished second in the javelin Friday with a PR of 35.92m. Sophomore Avery Dowkus led Lehigh in the hammer throw, finishing fifth with a throw of 47.39m.

On Saturday, Lehigh took the top four spots in the shot put led by Aggen (14.33m) and followed by Dowkus (12.45m), first-year Emily Kolodziej (12.42m) and first-year Maddie Hussey (12.03m).

Kolodziej won the discus with a throw of 45.40m to move into a tie for fourth place all-time. Aggen finished sixth with a throw of 45.11m.

Jumps
Mauger led a top three sweep for the Mountain Hawks in the long jump with a leap of 5.58m. Senior Keisha Modi (5.49m) finished second while junior Grace Nation (5.43m) took third. Senior Lauren Roy finished fifth to lead Lehigh in the triple jump (10.96m) followed by Nation in sixth (10.73m).

In the high jump, senior Izabel Fronc, junior Melanie LaCorte and first-year Anna Troutman all cleared 1.57m to finish 1-2-3.

Junior Laura Reigle won the pole vault, clearing 3.90m, while junior Sarah Goode tied her PR and ninth all-time mark of 3.45m.

Sprints/Hurdles
Senior Shelby Dejana won the 100m hurdles with a time of 14.85 seconds, while Carrington won the 400m hurdles, posting a new PR 1:03.09 and improving on her eighth all-time mark.

Klebe won the 400m, running 56.42 to move into fourth place all-time.
Â
Mangili (25.56) led Lehigh in the 200m, finishing fifth, while Sanders finished seventh with a time of 25.93.

Sophomore Iciar Gorospe Valenzuela ran a PR (14.42) in the 100m.

Mid-Distance/Distance
Sophomore Siri Hellenbrand (11:40.25) and first-year Elizabeth Ehrhardt (11:58.69) posted PRs in the 3000m steeplechase, finishing fourth and fifth, respectively.

In the 800m, sophomore Hope Trimmer finished third with a PR time of 2:17.48, while first-year Izzy Owens finished fifth with a PR of 2:19.85.

Senior Riley Morrell finished sixth in the 1500m with a time of 4:48.72, followed by first-year Kaya Meler in 4:49.21.

First-year Brenna Dahlgren finished fifth in the 5000m with a time of 19:26.54.

The Mountain Hawks next will head to Worcester, Mass., for the Patriot League Championships, May 2-3.
