Lehigh Puts Up 14 Runs To Win Series Over Bucknell

4/20/2025 4:28:00 PM | Baseball

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Lehigh baseball wrapped up the weekend series with Keystone state rival Bucknell on Easter Sunday from J. David Walker Field. With the season series tied 2-2, the Mountain Hawks put together a strong day offensively to win 14-4 in seven innings.

First-year Cole Kochanowicz was excellent on the mound in relief of starter Jake Mulvehill, tossing 6.0 innings with three strikeouts, one earned run and one hit to earn the win for Lehigh (19-19, 8-11 PL). Bucknell (14-24, 6-13 PL) reliever Samuel Janik received the loss after allowing the go-ahead run in the second inning.

The Bison had a strong start to the day, sending three runs past home plate in the first inning thanks to RBI singles from Ryan Facinelli and Luke Nascimento. The Mountain Hawks responded quickly retaking the lead in the bottom of the frame. Owen Walewander got things started with a two-RBI single before Dom Patrizi's RBI single tied the contest 3-3. Patrizi would be caught stealing to end the inning, but Justin Butler managed to score before Patrizi was tagged out to take a 4-3 lead after one.

Bucknell tied the game the next inning thanks to an RBI single from Tyler Dunn, but a bases loaded walk in the bottom of the second allowed Lehigh to take a lead they wouldn't relinquish the rest of the way. The third inning provided more fireworks for the Mountain Hawks, as a Robbie Carvelli single, wild pitch and score on an error added four runs for Lehigh in the bottom of the third.

Leading 9-4, Lehigh's lead grew again in the bottom of the sixth. Jake Whitlinger and Aidan Quinn provided RBI singles before Raffaele Rogers stole home to make it 12-4 Mountain Hawks. Whitlinger brought two more runs past home plate with a single in the bottom of the seventh to set the run rule in place and end the game.

Lehigh registered 14 hits on the afternoon, which included multi-hit performances from Whitlinger, Quinn, Walewander and Carvelli. Whitlinger went 4-5 on the day and stole the 69th base of his career, tying Lehigh's all-time record. Butler and Sam Holtz also got hits for the Mountain Hawks.

The Mountain Hawks return to J. David Walker Field on Wednesday, April 23 to host Saint Peter's for Pride Day, presented by Lehigh's Pride Center and Office of Inclusive Excellence and Belonging.
