Saint Peter's (9-26) reliever Hunter Lefkus earned the win, tossing 5.0 innings with two strikeouts, two hits and one earned run. Lehigh (19-20) reliever David Andolina was credited with the loss after conceding the Peacocks' go-ahead runs in the fourth.
The Mountain Hawks had a fast start offensively, scoring five in the first inning. After Saint Peter's took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first, Dom Patrizi got things started with an RBI single that tied the game. Raffaele Rogers then brought two runs home on a double followed by an Edwin Betances RBI single that put Lehigh ahead 5-1.
The Peacocks then rallied in the next two innings, scoring a combined six runs across the third and fourth innings. An Ashby Vining sac-fly in the sixth extended Saint Peter's lead to 8-5 headed to the bottom of the inning.
Patrizi managed to send home Jake Whitlinger on an RBI groundout in the bottom of the sixth, but a five-run seventh from the Peacocks gave them a seven-run advantage. Lehigh then began to rally, scoring four runs in the seventh on a Betances two-RBI double and Ian Wirtz two-run homer. Down to their final out in the bottom of the ninth, Rogers brought the Mountain Hawks within one on a two-RBI single, but the Peacocks retired the final batter to secure the win.
Robbie Carvelli, Patrizi, Justin Butler, Rogers, Matt Tsiaras, Betances and Wirtz provided a combined 13 hits for the Mountain Hawks. Starter Grady Golier, Max Treonze, Jake Mulvehill and Tommy Lamar also appeared on the mound for Lehigh. Whitlinger recorded the 70th stolen base of his career in the game, becoming Lehigh's all-time leader in the category.
The Mountain Hawks return to J. David Walker Field on Friday, April 25 at 3 p.m. to begin a three-game series against the Navy Midshipmen.
