GLADSTONE, N.J. – Three days after winning Lafayette's Invitational for the second consecutive year, the Lehigh men's golf team defeated the Leopards 14-6 Thursday in the annual Presidents Cup match play event at Hamilton Farm Golf Club. Four Lehigh players came through the day unbeaten as Lehigh retains the cup for a fourth straight year.

All 10 of Lehigh's players contributed to at least one victory. The Mountain Hawks won both 9-hole doubles formats by 4-1 scores to build an 8-2 lead and then needing just two points from singles to retain the cup, Lehigh won six of the 10 singles matches.

The four Mountain Hawks to go 3-0 on the day were sophomores Jake Roth and Will Caronchi and graduate students Sam Barton and David Hurly. Roth and Caronchi defeated Carter Ablon and Michael Bell 2 up in better ball play and then 4 and 2 in alternate shot.

Barton and Hurly beat Harry Dessel and Hudson Pace 3 and 1 in better ball and 1 up in alternate shot.

In singles action, Roth defeated Bell 6 and 4 at the No. 8 position, while Caronchi dominated Ablon 6 and 5 at the No. 7 spot. Roth's victory got Lehigh to 10 points, ensuring the cup would be headed back to Bethlehem.

In the final two singles matches Barton won 2 and 1 over Pace and Hurly defeated Dessel 1 up.

Lehigh's two other singles victories went to first-year Charles Schrohe, 3 and 2 over Valdemar Kofod-Olsen at No. 10; and senior Edmund Broderick, who beat Quint Dingledine 3 and 2 at No. 3.

Schrohe, who was making his Lehigh debut, teamed with sophomore Paulius Malcius to go 1-1 in doubles action.

Sophomore Aiden LeBlanc teamed with first-year Matthew Quinn to win both of their doubles matches. Broderick teamed with junior Jahan Bains to post a win in alternate shot, along with his singles triumph.

The Mountain Hawks will now turn their attention to the Patriot League Championship, which Lehigh will host on the Grace Course at Saucon Valley Country Club Apr. 26-28. Lehigh will be looking to defend its title and win its fifth Patriot League championship overall.
