Three Shoot Under Par For Lehigh At Matthews Auto Invitational

APALACHIN, N.Y. – The Lehigh men's golf team turned in an opening-round score of nine under par 279 as Binghamton's Matthews Auto Collegiate Golf Invitational got underway Sunday at the Links at Hiawatha Landing. Three players turned in rounds under par as the Mountain Hawks sit in third place out of a 13-team field.
 
First-year Drew Golden and sophomore Noah Zyung led the way, with rounds of four under par 68 with both players tied for fourth place. Golden's round included four birdies and 14 pars, while Zyung carded six birdies and an eagle.
 
Senior Jake Roth shot three under par 69 and is tied for eighth place. Roth made six birdies in his opening round.
 
Junior Matthew Quinn carded one birdie, 14 pars and three bogeys in his opening-round 74. Quinn is tied for 34th place.
 
First-year Ryan Cronin and senior Will Caronchi are both tied for 40th place after shooting 75. Both players carded three birdies in Sunday's first round. Caronchi is competing as an individual.
 
Iona shot 13 under par 275 to lead the team race. Binghamton is two strokes behind while Lehigh sits four shots behind the Gaels.
 
Sahir Balyan of Iona is the individual leader after shooting seven under par 65. He leads Binghamton's Sean Shen by one stroke.
 
The Matthews Auto Collegiate Golf Invitational concludes Monday with the final 18 holes of play.
