Lehigh Dominates Lafayette In 4-0 Rivalry Sweep

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Lehigh men's tennis played their final match at home this season on Tuesday afternoon, welcoming Lafayette to the Ulrich Varsity Tennis Courts. The Mountain Hawks took care of business against their rival, sweeping the Leopards 4-0.

"To get a win on the board for Lehigh [in the rivalry] is always exciting," said head coach Craig Schwartz. "It's even sweeter to get the sweep in dominant fashion."

Lehigh (11-10, 4-3 PL) started a bit slow in doubles play, falling behind in both the number one and number three doubles matches against Lafayette (8-13, 1-5 PL). However, the Mountain Hawks eventually found their rhythm, starting with a 6-1 win at number two from Sean Jaeger and Jackson Morash. The pairings of Matt Kleiman/Marc Blekhman and Wyeth Anzilotti/Luke Donovan brushed off slow starts to win their doubles points by scores of 6-4 and 6-3 respectively.

"We came out a little flat to begin doubles… I was telling them we've got to pick up our energy and compete," said Schwartz. "Once we got rolling, we kind of took over and were able to get the doubles sweep."

After earning the doubles point, Lehigh needed only three wins to clinch the dual meet win. Their first win came at number one, as Kleiman earned a quick two-set victory over Lafayette's number one Arman Ganchi. Shortly after, Morash earned a dominant 6-0, 6-1 win to put his team one point away from victory. Benedict Horn-Bourque finished next at number five via an impressive 6-1, 6-0 win that sealed the sweep for Lehigh.

Lehigh has one more match on their schedule against the Bucknell Bison before next week's Patriot League Tournament. The Mountain Hawks will take on the Bison on Saturday, April 20 for a 1 p.m. start in Lewisburg.

"It's [Bucknell's] alumni and senior weekend, and I coached there for four years, so it'll add some excitement and I might see some players I coached there," said Schwartz. "It's going to be a good college tennis atmosphere. We feel good about where we're at right now, so I think we can jump out there and compete hard, and that's what we're going to do."
