Lehigh Edged By Holy Cross 13-11 On Senior Day

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Despite an offensive push in the final minutes, the Lehigh women's lacrosse program fell 13-11 to Holy Cross on Senior Day, Saturday at the Ulrich Sports Complex.
 
Graduate student Gabby Schneider led Lehigh with seven points off four goals and three assists, while Emma Eberhardt added four goals and one assist.
 
Lehigh jumped out on a 2-0 lead to open the game with Schneider and Eberhardt giving Lehigh the lead with 10:51 on the clock. Holy Cross got on the board late in the first quarter as the Mountain Hawks held a 2-1 advantage heading into the second quarter.
 
Schneider opened the second quarter with her second goal of the game, extending Lehigh's lead to 3-1 with 13:21 remaining in the half. Holy Cross tallied a second goal before senior Olivia Memeger netted a goal at 9:21, holding the Mountain Hawks on top 4-2. 
 
The Crusaders went on a 3-0 run, taking a 5-4 lead with over five minutes left in the half. Eberhardt broke up the run, tying the game at 5-5 before Holy Cross and Schneider traded goals to close out the half knotted up at 6-6.
 
Schneider claimed her fourth goal of the game to open the third quarter, giving Lehigh a 7-6 lead. The Crusaders responded with a three-goal run, grabbing the 9-6 lead with 9:04 left in the quarter.
 
At 4:41, senior Emma Fiore connected with Eberhardt to earn her share of the Senior Day scoring, breaking up the run with Holy Cross on top 9-8.
 
Holy Cross went on another run to close out the third quarter, as Sally Zinsner netted two goals to give the Crusaders an 12-8 advantage heading into the final quarter.
 
Zinsner started off the fourth quarter with her fifth goal of the game, pushing Holy Cross' lead to 13-8 with 9:09 remaining.
 
First-year Grace Martel picked up a ground ball off a Holy Cross save and put it in the back of the net as Lehigh pulled within four, down 13-9 with 6:09 left in the game. 
 
At 3:08, Eberhardt claimed her third goal of the game off an assist from junior Julia DiConza, putting the Mountain Hawks down 13-10. Lehigh held momentum as Eberhardt responded immediately with another goal decreasing the Crusaders' lead to 13-11 with 2:31 left in the game.
 
Lehigh's momentum was thwarted by turnovers in the final minutes as Holy Cross held on to win 13-11.
 
Senior goalkeeper Hayley Hunt made eight saves, picked up five ground balls and had one caused turnover. Holy Cross goalkeeper Tori Cini also made eight saves while tallying three ground balls and one caused turnover.
 
Three student-athletes led Lehigh with two caused turnovers apiece in graduate student Cassie Marte, first-year Brynn Freeman and sophomore Kenna Winters.
 
Seniors Emma Fiore, Hayley Hunt, Amel Vernon and Olivia Memeger along with graduate students Emma Eberhardt, Gabby Schneider and Cassie Marte were honored after the game for their contributions and dedication to the program.
 
Lehigh (7-5, 3-3 PL) heads to No. 21 Navy on Wednesday with the opening draw set for 6 p.m.
