POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – Lehigh men's tennis completed a back-to-back on Saturday evening after defeating Morgan State at home on Friday. The Mountain Hawks earned a 5-2 victory over the Red Foxes.
"Great win after a quick turnaround," said head coach Craig Schwartz. "The guys really fought hard and battled to the end. We need to keep the pressure on when we win the first set, but it was great to see the response of multiple guys in the third set."
Lehigh (5-5) continued their stretch of excellent doubles play, once again claiming the doubles point for the sixth consecutive dual. Aristotelis Bezianis and Jackson Morash got things started with a 6-3 win at number two followed by Matt Kleiman and Marc Blekhman's win at number one to clinch the doubles point. Lehigh swept doubles competition after Sean Jaeger and Jordan Paul picked up a 6-3 win at number two.
After dropping his match last night against Morgan State, Kleiman came out of the gates strong with an impressive 6-0, 6-2 win at number one. Leading 2-0, the Red Foxes were able to even the score with a three-set win at number five and a two-set tiebreak win at number six.
Needing two more points to clinch the dual, Blekhman, Bezianis and Jaeger each found themselves in matches that went the distance. Blekhman earned a point in his match at number two with a 6-4 win in set three just in time for Jaeger to pick up a clutch tiebreak victory at number four to clinch the dual for the Mountain Hawks.
The Mountain Hawks will travel to Orlando, Florida where they will face IUPUI and Emporia State University. Their first dual of the spring break will be against IUPUI on March 11.
"Looking forward to a great week of practice and preparation for our next set of matches in Florida," said Schwartz.
