Poole Captures Special Teams Player of the Week Award

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Lehigh first-year punter Connor Poole has been named Patriot League Special Teams Player of the Week, the league announced Monday. Poole's punting helped Lehigh control field position in the Mountain Hawks' hard-fought 10-7 win at Holy Cross on Saturday.

This is the first weekly award of Poole's career and the second consecutive week that Lehigh has won the league's Special Teams Player of the Week award.

Poole punted four times Saturday at Fitton Field, averaging 46.5 yards per kick with two of his kicks landing inside the Crusaders' 20 yard line. His first punt of the day was a 48-yarder that was downed at the Holy Cross one yard line. Poole's fourth and final punt of the day was a career long-tying 56-yarder, which pinned the Crusaders back at their own 14. Â Holy Cross was only able to reach the Lehigh 35, where the Mountain Hawks blocked Daniel Porto's game-tying 52-yard field goal attempt.

In addition, Poole averaged 50.7 yards on three kickoffs Saturday.

For the season Poole is averaging 39.5 yards per punt on 35 punts, with 11 downed inside the opponents' 20. He also handles Lehigh's kickoff duties, averaging 59.5 yards on 41 kickoffs with 16 touchbacks.

Also on Monday, graduate student linebacker Mike DeNucci garnered honorable mention recognition. DeNucci led an outstanding defensive effort for the Mountain Hawks with 11 tackles, 1.5 tackles for loss, a sack and a pass breakup. His sack helped thwart a potential scoring drive for the Crusaders in the fourth quarter as it resulted in a 10 yard loss and combined with a penalty knocked Holy Cross out of field goal range. Lehigh limited Holy Cross to just 258 yards of offense Saturday. The Mountain Hawks rank in the top 10 in the FCS in both pass defense and total defense.

The Mountain Hawks (6-3, 3-1 PL) return to Goodman Stadium this Saturday to host Colgate on Salute to Service, presented by Weis Markets with game time set for noon. Lehigh is tied for first place in the Patriot League standings with Bucknell and Holy Cross with two games remaining in the regular season.
