BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Patriot League champions are back. After winning its fourth Patriot League title last spring and playing in the NCAA Las Vegas Regional, the Lehigh men's golf team will be back on the course this weekend, opening a six-event fall slate at Colgate's Alex Lagowitz Memorial Invitational, set for Saturday and Sunday at Colgate's Seven Oaks Golf Club.
Â
The Mountain Hawks will play in Colgate's two-day, 54-hole event with 36 holes set for Saturday and the final 18 to be played Sunday in Hamilton, N.Y.
Â
Lehigh opens its fall schedule in a new season after winning four team tournament titles in 2022-23, capped by its Patriot League Championship triumph in late April in Maryland.
Â
Patriot League Coach of the Year Henry D'Alberto enters his 18th season with an 11-player roster. Lehigh returns five of the six players who participated in both the Patriot League Championship and the NCAA Regional.
Â
Lehigh lost Patriot League individual champion and Player of the Year Daniel Song to graduation, but two of his classmates, David Hurly and Sam Barton, are back for fifth years with the Mountain Hawks. Hurly finished second on the team behind Song with a 72.4 scoring average last year, while Barton is a two-time All-Patriot League honoree.
Â
The lone true senior on the roster is Edmund Broderick, who played in all but one event last season.
Â
Junior Aidan Oehrle is Lehigh's lone returning All-Patriot League performer from last spring. Oehrle claimed first team honors with a third place finish. Jahan Bains joins Oehrle as third-year Mountain Hawk players.
Â
The sophomore class consists of Jake Roth, who won the Alabama A&M Golf Classic last fall, Will Caronchi, Aiden LeBlanc and newcomer Paulius Malcius; while D'Alberto has brought in a pair of first-years in Matthew Quinn and Charles Schrohe.
Â
The Alex Lagowitz Memorial is a regular stop for the Mountain Hawks in the fall season. Last year, Lehigh finished eighth out of 14 teams, led by Broderick, who tied for 18th place.
Â
The tournament will begin with 36 holes Saturday, beginning at 9 a.m. followed by a final round Sunday. The field includes Binghamton, Bucknell, Colgate, Cornell, Holy Cross, Lafayette, Lehigh, Penn, Seton Hall, St. Bonaventure, Villanova and Yale.
Â
The Alex Lagowitz Memorial will mark the first of three straight weekends of play for the Mountain Hawks to open September. Lehigh will play in The Doc Gimmler, hosted by St. John's on the Bethpage Red Course, Sept. 9-10 and then the Temple Invitational in Plymouth Meeting, Pa., Sept. 16-17.
Â
The annual Presidents Cup matches versus Lafayette will take place Sept. 28 at Hamilton Farm Golf Club in Gladstone, N.J.
Â
October will begin with Lehigh looking to defend its title at Binghamton's Matthews Auto Intercollegiate (Oct. 1-2) and the month and Lehigh's fall season will conclude with the Mountain Hawks hosting the Lehigh Invitational Oct. 20-21 at Saucon Valley Country Club.
