Lehigh Second Varsity Claims Victory in Petite Final at Patriot League Championships

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Lehigh women's rowing program finished eighth of nine teams after earning a first-place finish in the second varsity eight petite final. The Mountain Hawks also had a pair of second-place finishes in the first varsity eight and varsity four races to conclude the 2023 Patriot League Championships on Lake Quinsigamond in Massachusetts.
 
Navy captured the Patriot League title with 51 points Boston University also finished with 51 points, but by virtue of the Midshipmen's win in the Varsity eight, the Terriers finished as the runner-up. Bucknell finished third with 38 points and Georgetown totaled 34 points in its return to the championship field to place fourth. MIT finished fifth in the final standings with 32 points, while Holy Cross finished with 24 points to finish sixth. Colgate recorded 20 points as the Mountain Hawks (14) and Loyola (Md.) (6) rounded out the field.
 
The Mountain Hawks varsity four opened the day in heat two against Boston University Georgetown and Colgate, finishing in 8:24.490 and earning a spot in the petite final against Loyola (Md.) and MIT. In the petite final, the Brown and White were able to finish second in a time of 8:33.650.

The Mountain Hawks' second varsity eight was the next to compete, as a six-seed, and raced against Navy, Georgetown and Holy Cross in heat two.  After turning in a time of 7:18.250, they earned a spot in the petite final in the afternoon, where they defeated Colgate and Loyola (Md.) with a time of 7:20.866, finishing almost 13 seconds ahead of the Raiders.

Lehigh's first varsity eight crew was also a six-seed and took on Navy, Bucknell and Colgate in heat two. The Mountain Hawks' mark of 7:07.080 landed them in the petite final with Holy Cross and Loyola (Md.). Cutting nearly 11 seconds of their time from the morning, Lehigh posted a time of 6:56.515 to earn a second-place finish, just under two seconds behind Holy Cross.
