
Lehigh Defeats Holy Cross 17-15, Clinches Home Quarterfinal

WORCESTER, Mass. - The Lehigh women's lacrosse team clinched a home Patriot League quarterfinal game after coming up with a 17-15 victory over Holy Cross Saturday afternoon at Kuzniewski Field.Â
The Mountain Hawks, who have won three straight games, are now 10-5 (5-3 PL) and the Crusaders are 6-10 (3-5 PL).
Not only did Lehigh clinch a spot in the Patriot League Tournament, but the Mountain Hawks also had two big milestones in Saturday's game. Senior Cassie Marte had 12 draw controls and now has the most draw controls in a season for Lehigh (88). Olivia Memeger had a team-high of seven points, with four goals and three assists and hit the 100-point milestone for her career.
Memeger was one of five Mountain Hawks to record multiple points. Emma Eberhardt had six points (4G, 2A), Katia Carnevale had five points (4G, 1A), Gabby Schneider had four points (2G, 2A), and Marte had three points (2G, 1A).Â
Lehigh got off to a fast start to the game. Marte scored a goal with 16 seconds left in the first frame to put the Mountain Hawks up 6-2.
Lehigh scored four more goals in the second quarter to take a 10-4 lead at the half.Â
Schenider connected on a free-position shot in the third quarter to put Lehigh up by eight, which was its biggest lead of the game. The Mountain Hawks looked like they were going to run away with the game, but Holy Cross went on a 6-0 run to pull within two.Â
The Mountain Hawks scored two straight goals to go back up by four.Â
In the fourth quarter, the Crusaders cut it to within two twice, but Lehigh held strong and pulled out a hard-fought win.Â
Hayley Hunt had eight saves for Lehigh.Tori Cini had 10 saves for Holy Cross. The Crusaders were led by Lauren Drillock, who scored a game-high of eight points (6G, 2A).Â
The Mountain Hawks had the 19-16 advantage in draw controls on Saturday, led by Marte's 12. Eberhardt and Emma Fiore also had three.Â
Both teams had 32 shots on Saturday.
The Mountain Hawks will welcome Colgate to the Ulrich Sports Complex on Thursday for the final game of the regular season. Game time is set for 6 p.m.Â
