Mountain Hawks Dominate Leopards in 15-3 League-Opening Victory

EASTON, Pa. – The Lehigh women's lacrosse team dominated rival Lafayette in all facets to claim a 15-3 victory in the Patriot League opener for both teams Saturday at Fisher Stadium.
Senior Gabby Schneider and junior Olivia Memeger paced the offense, with Schneider scoring a game-high four goals and Memeger adding six points on three goals and three assists. Lehigh enjoyed a healthy 14-6 advantage in draw controls and caused 14 of Lafayette's 20 turnovers on the afternoon.
Lehigh has now won six straight games to improve to 6-1 on the season, while Lafayette falls to 1-7.
Senior Cassie Marte led Lehigh with five draw controls, while classmate Katia Carnevale had three caused turnovers to go along with a hat-trick. Schneider, Memeger and Marte all added two caused turnovers for the Mountain Hawks.
Goals from Memeger and Carnevale gave Lehigh a 2-0 lead after one quarter. Lafayette scored two of the first three goals in the second quarter to pull within 3-2 before the Mountain Hawks scored six straight goals to take a 9-2 lead into halftime. Junior Emma Fiore scored twice in the six-goal run while Schneider scored her second of the game to put Lehigh up by seven at the break.
First-year Kacie Wines scored the first two goals of the second half and Carnevale's third goal of the game put Lehigh up 12-2 after three quarters. Lafayette scored its third goal early in the fourth quarter before Schneider added two more tallies and sophomore Angelina Pino capped the scoring in the final minute of the game.
Abby Romano, Genevieve Strobel and Sara Rogers scored Lafayette's goals.
Lehigh held a commanding 40-15 edge in shots and won the groundball battle 24-18.
Junior Hayley Hunt was credited with six saves while first-year Julia DeLitta added one for the Mountain Hawks. Lexie Coldiron made 16 saves for Lafayette.
The Mountain Hawks will close out their four-game road swing next Saturday when they visit No. 7 Loyola. Opening draw is set for noon from Ridley Athletic Complex in Baltimore.
