Mountain Hawks conclude Lafayette Invitational with nine wins

EASTON, Pa. – Fresh off winning 16 events in last weekend's Lehigh Spring Opener, the Lehigh men's and women's track and field teams were back in action this weekend at the Lafayette Invitational against Lafayette, Binghamton, Colgate and Monmouth. Throughout the day-long event on Saturday, the Brown and White compiled nine wins through both teams.
Starting with the women, senior Brittany Curtin continued to showcase her talent with two wins on the day. Curtin, one of the best student-athletes in the Patriot League, racked up wins in the hammer throw (49.73m) and the discus (43.78m). Another big-time performance today came from freshman Kerry Perna, as the first-year athlete took the win the high jump with a mark of 1.65m. In the 1500m, Jade Sessions took the win with a time of 4:43.70, while freshman Christina Yakaboski finished third at 4:45.98. Then in the 400mH, Kaja Skerlj secured the win with a time of 1:05.26, while Lauren Powell finished third at 1:07.66.
In the javelin, Karina Roze took a second-place finish with a throw of 37.50m. Brett DeWeese finished second overall in the 100mH with a time of 14.74, while Carly Friend finished second in the 800m at 2:17.41. Rachel Sequeira secured a third-place finish in the triple jump with a jump of 11.31m, while the 4x100 relay team of Camari Griffin, Morgan McConnell, Alexis Smith and DeWeese finished second with a time of 48.94.
In the shot put, Teasha McKoy finished third with a toss of 12.93m, and then Ashley Struck took third overall in the 400mH at 1:00.94. In the mile run, Jamie Zamrin carried over her cross country success with a third-place finish with a time of 17:46.39. In the 4x400 relay, Aisha Kumar, Lauren Powell, Anna Murphy and Skerlj tallied a third-place finish with a time of 4:00.31.
Moving over to the men's side, the Brown and White won four events at the Lafayette Invitational. In the pole vault, freshman Conor Reilly won with a mark of 4.70m. In the 1500m, Connor Melko jetted past the field with a win at 3:59.66. Amondo Lemmon secured a win under his belt in the 400m dash with a time of 50.21. Then in the 5000m run, Michael Mitchell and Jeffrey Kirshenbaum took one and two with times of 14:58.23 and 15:06.30.
Evan El-Halawani took second in the 40mH with a time of 57.98. In the hammer throw, Riley Lariviere finished third overall with a score at 51.89m, while Brittann Pierce and Ian Scott both tied for third in the high jump with a mark at 1.90m. Scott also registered a third-place finish in the triple jump at 12.98m.
In the 110mH, Michael Nardelli finished third overall in the 110mH with a time of 15.16. In the 400m dash, Harrison Ernst compiled a fourth-place finish with a time of 51.48. The sophomore Lemmon also tallied a fifth-place finish in the 200m dash with a time of 22.90.
Up next, Lehigh will host a day-long meet next weekend at the Goodman Track and Field Complex.
