Broderick Ties For Fifth, Lehigh Fourth At Columbia Invitational

KINGSTON, N.Y. – Sophomore Edmund Broderick posted a top-five individual finish to help lead the Lehigh men's golf team to a fourth place finish out of 12 teams at the Columbia Fall Invitational Monday at Wiltwyck Golf Club. The Mountain Hawks posted rounds of 293 and 290 to finish the one-day, 36-hole event at seven over par 583.
Broderick had a big day for the Mountain Hawks, carding nine birdies over his 36 holes. He shot two under par 70 in the morning, with four birdies, and then made five birdies in an afternoon 71 to tie for fifth place at three under par 141. Broderick finished six strokes behind Harvard's Kevin Sze, who was the individual medalist at nine under par 135. He was the top finisher from a non-Ivy League school. Three of the other top six finishers were from Harvard, while Cornell and Columbia each placed an individual in the top five.
Junior David Hurly matched Broderick with nine birdies and was Lehigh's No. 2 finisher, tying for 18th place at two over par 146 (73-73). Hurly made five birdies in his morning round and four in the afternoon.
One stroke behind Hurly was junior Daniel Song, who tied for 22nd place at 147 (76-71). Song finished the day with seven birdies including four in the afternoon.
Junior Sam Barton tied for 29th place at 149 (74-75). Barton had three birdies in his morning round and added one in the afternoon.
Sophomore Marco Arosemena made his season debut, tying for 39th place at 154 (78-76). Arosemena made three birdies in each round.
Harvard dominated the field on the way to the team title with a score of 558 (281-277). The Crimson defeated Dartmouth by 22 strokes. Lehigh finished 25 strokes off the pace.
The Mountain Hawks will next host the Lehigh Invitational Oct. 22-23 on the Grace Course at Saucon Valley Country Club.
