BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The last time we saw the Lehigh women's cross country team, spectators witnessed a dominant effort from the Brown and White as they beat Lafayette 16-46. This time, the Mountain Hawks will take momentum into the CCSU Ted Owen Invitational on Saturday.

"Our last time out was great," gloated head coach Debbie Utesch. "I thought it was a great display from our seniors (Ashleigh Crawford, Diana Hammerstone and Hannah Bonaguidi).

Coach Utesch was indeed correct! Led by those three seniors, Lehigh managed to place eight of its runners inside the top-10. Crawford not only won her first collegiate race, but the senior was also awarded Patriot League Runner of the Week.  For the 15th straight time, Lehigh topped Lafayette.

After racing three consecutive weekends, the Mountain Hawks were off last weekend. The off week gave the student-athletes time to recuperate. "Mentally it was great opportunity to take a break from racing. Physically, we've had two pretty solid weeks of training which will pay off later in the season." stated Utesch.

With the success of Crawford, Hammerstone and Bonaguidi, Lehigh has also gotten strong showings from Susie Poore and Nicole Abbondandelo. All five women have performed well throughout the first three races.

"I think we have a pretty unique culture here at Lehigh," stated Utesch. "Yes, they're all individually competitive, but the competitiveness from the women focuses on pulling their teammates along up front and beating someone not in a Lehigh jersey."

This weekend at the CCSU Invite, Lehigh will run its full squad for only the second time of the season. One thing the Mountain Hawks will look to do is run in the front of the pack. "I want to see our team running up front," stated Utesch. "We have tremendous depth and a good pack running team. This will be a good opportunity for us to run up front as we approach Paul Short."

The Paul Short Run is one of the largest collegiate cross country events in the country. Runners can tend to get lost if they start off slow or fall behind in the pack. Runners tend to find difficulty in moving up if they start behind because of the large volume and runners that compete.

Main point, look for Lehigh to try and run up front as they look to win the CCSU Invite on Saturday morning. Race is scheduled to begin at 12:00 p.m.
