NEW BRITAIN, Conn. - Lehigh's women's cross country team traveled to Connecticut for their first away meet on Saturday morning. The Mountain Hawks traveled to Central Connecticut State University to compete in a 5k at the Ted Owen Invitational. Lehigh placed third out of nine teams, scoring 79 points. The Mountain Hawks finished a few points short of New Hampshire, who scored 72. They were also beaten by UConn, who won the meet with a team score of 20 points.

Senior Lucy Afanasewicz led the charge for Lehigh, securing 11th place in a time of 17:47.4. This was an improvement on her previous 5k, improving by almost 30 seconds. Finishing not far behind was Kaitlyn Highduch. The sophomore secured 17th place, breaking the 18-minute mark by running 17:59.8. Junior Grace Hughes was the third Mountain Hawk to finish for the second week in a row. Her time of 18:08.5 was enough for 19th place.

Juniors Devon Sutton (18:23.2) and Hope Trimmer (18:31.5) were the next two Lehigh runners to finish. They finished back-to-back at 23rd and 24th place respectively. Kaya Meler was right behind, finishing in 26th place with a time of 18:34.6. Grace Trimmer rounded out Lehigh's scoring seven, making her two-for-two in that distinction to start her collegiate career. The first-year ran 19:04.1, which was good for 39th place overall.

The Mountain Hawks are back at home for their next competition. Lehigh will host the 51st Paul Short Run on Friday, October 3rd.
