BETHLEHEM, Pa. – On Friday afternoon, Lehigh hosted the Patriot League Championship at the Goodman Campus Cross Country Course. The Mountain Hawks placed fifth, scoring 136 points. Army West Point took home the overall win, scoring 21 points thanks to individual champion Charlotte Richman.

Junior Grace Hughes, who is in the midst of a career season, was the top Mountain Hawk to finish. She ran 21:18.8, which was good for 11th place. Her placement earned her a spot on the All-Patriot League second team, the first of her career and the first for a Lehigh women's runner since Jamie Zamrin in the 2020-21 season.

"I'm really proud of how I ran today," said Hughes. "I'm really proud of my outcome today and how I executed the race. I really tried picking off girls in the last 600 [meters] and I'm really proud of myself today. We came in with some big expectations as a team, and I worked really well with Kaitlyn [Highduch], I couldn't have done it without her."

Highduch was the next Mountain Hawk to finish. The sophomore placed 16th overall and ran 21:23.8. With Hughes and Highduch both placing within the top 20, this marks the first time Lehigh has had two top-20 finishers in the women's race since 2019.

The third Lehigh runner to finish was Lucy Afanasewicz. The senior ran 21:44.6 to place 29th. The next two finishers for Lehigh were sisters Hope and Grace Trimmer. The two worked together to secure spots in the top 50, as the elder Hope (22:09.7) placed 43rd and the younger Grace (22:14.8) placed 46th.

First-year Zoë Louis and junior Devon Sutton closed out Lehigh's scoring seven together. Louis crossed the line in 22:39.9 (63rd), with Sutton right behind at 22:41.8 (65th).

"We are a little disappointed as a team with being fifth, as we've been fifth for the last two years," Hughes explained. "This was a great team effort, and I really think it's just the beginning. We have a great group of girls, we're a young team, and we're just going to come back stronger next year. There's no doubt in my mind about that."

Lehigh's next race will come at home on November 14 when the Mountain Hawks will host the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional on the Goodman Campus Cross Country Course.
