HAVERFORD, Pa. - On Friday evening, Lehigh's women's cross country team sent five runners down to southern Pennsylvania to compete at the Haverford Invitational. The Mountain Hawks finished in second place with 42 points. They only trailed Villanova, who won the meet with a perfect score of 15 points.
Lehigh's top two finishers were both first-years. Katelyn Nolan cracked the top ten with a 10th place finish, and Emerson Skatell came 12th. They both broke the 20-minute mark in their first college 5k races, Nolan finished in 19:30.2 and Skatell ran 19:59.8.
Sophomore Chloe Browne finished third for the Mountain Hawks. She lowered her collegiate cross country best 5k time down to 20:14.8. Senior Elisa Brear and junior Aurora Wilson were the final two of the five Lehigh runners to cross the finish line. Brear placed 15th with a time of 20:37.4, and right behind her finished Wilson in 16th place, who ran 20:45.1.
"This was a great opportunity for some of our younger women and the women returning from earlier illness to take the lead and drive the squad," said head coach Debbie Utesch. "Nice result as a team and a solid performance from Katelyn Nolan to lead the team."
The Mountain Hawks now shift focus to the Patriot League Championships. They will be held on Friday, October 31 at home on the Goodman Campus Cross Country Course.
