Mountain Hawk men conclude weekend at The Doc Gimmler

FARMINGDALE, N.Y. — Two Mountain Hawks finished within the top 20 individually, as the Lehigh men's golf team held on for an eighth place finish at The Doc Gimmler at the Bethpage State Park Red Course, which concluded with the final round on Sunday afternoon. After a 297-282 first two rounds, Lehigh shot a 286 in the final round to finish at 865, 25-over par for the weekend.
Senior Owen Quinn led Lehigh on Sunday, totaling 69 in the final round after shooting 72 and 71 in the first two rounds, finishing with a 212 (72-71-69), two-over par for the tournament and tied for 11th place. Quinn birdied on back-to-back holes at the fifth and sixth and added another birdie on the 16th. He had just two bogeys on the afternoon, at the 12th and 13th holes.
Freshman Alex Aurora came into Sunday leading Lehigh individually in 13th place following two solid rounds that saw him go one under par. However, Aurora shot a 73 in the final round with a bogey on five and three bogeys on the back nine. He did birdie the 16th hole to finish the tournament with a 215 (73-69-73). Aurora finished the tournament tied for 21st place as the second-highest finishing Mountain Hawk.
Freshman Sam Barton, who competed as an individual, shot a 71 in the final round and finished at 218 (75-72-71) for the tournament tied for 35th place. He finished the round with four birdies, two on the front nine and two on the back nine.
Senior Ryan Kelly finished in a tie for 43rd place as Lehigh's fourth-highest finisher for the tournament. Kelly shot a 72 in the final round and finished with a 220 (77-71-72).
The Mountain Hawks' fifth-highest finisher was freshman David Hurly, who shot a 74 in the final round for a score of 222 (77-71-74) in a tie for 49th place. Finally, freshman Daniel Song shot a 72 in the final round, by far his best performance of the weekend, finishing in 69th place at 228 (75-81-72) for the tournament. He had four birdies for the round.
It was a four-way tie for the individual title between Lafayette's Kazuki Osawa, Navy's Charlie Musto, Rhode Island's Bryson Richards and Navy's Thomas Garbee. Navy took home the team Doc Gimmler title after shooting five-under par for the tournament with a final score of 834 (277-283-274). Yale came in second with a score of 843 (281-284-278) and coming in third place was Lafayette, who scored an 844 (286-289-269).
Up next, Lehigh heads to Hampden, Mass. for the UConn Invitational at Greathorse from Sept. 29 to Oct. 1.
