BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Lehigh men's golf team heads to New England for its third fall tournament as the Mountain Hawks will play in the three-day UConn Invitational at GreatHorse, running Sunday-Tuesday at GreatHorse in Hampden, Mass.
Lehigh's last tournament action was an eighth place finish out of 14 teams at The Doc Gimmler, Sept. 14-15 on the Red Course at Bethpage State Park. Senior Owen Quinn and freshman Alex Aurora finished in the top 15 individually to lead the way for the Mountain Hawks.
The Mountain Hawks' lineup for each of their first two fall tournaments has featured Quinn and classmate Ryan Kelly plus Aurora and fellow first-years David Hurly and Daniel Song. Freshman Sam Barton was the top individual player at The Doc Gimmler, tying for 30th place.
Last weekend, Lehigh held a successful Alumni Challenge as the current squad defeated a team of alumni spanning the 1970s, 80s, 90s, 2000s and 2010s.
The UConn Invitational at GreatHorse will be a 54-hole event, with 18 holes scheduled for Sunday, Monday and Tuesday. GreatHorse measures 7,093 yards and plays to a par 72.
This will be the third straight year that Lehigh will participate in Connecticut's fall invitational. The Mountain Hawks played in The Connecticut Cup in 2017 and finished sixth out of 13 teams at last year's UConn Invitational at GreatHorse, with Quinn and Kelly both posting top 10 finishes. Lehigh will be playing with Lafayette and Bryant. Live scoring will be available on BirdieFire.com.
Following the UConn Invitational at GreatHorse, Lehigh will battle Lafayette in the annual Presidents Cup matches at Hamilton Farms Golf Club in New Jersey on Tuesday, Oct. 15. The Mountain Hawks will close out the fall season when they host the Lehigh Invitational, Oct. 18-19 on the Grace Course at Saucon Valley Country Club.
