
Lehigh Concludes Action In Lehigh Invitational

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Lehigh men's tennis team concluded the Lehigh Invitational Sunday, as they continue to proceed through their 2018 fall schedule.
The second to last tournament before the ITA Regionals in Princeton, N.J. later in October, the Mountain Hawks faced Drexel, Lafayette, and Colgate in the two-day tournament this weekend.
"I was pleased with the way our guys competed. The level of tennis was high. The tournament ran smoothly thanks to the beautiful weather. I want to thank all coaches and student-athletes for competing in our invite," said head coach Wouter Hendrix.
Against Lafayette, Lehigh went 3-1 in doubles play. The pair of Jack Martin-Dyer and Jacob Edelchik winning 8-6 while Harry Wang and George Cooper lost 8-3. Zack Elliot and Gary Fishkin won 8-1 along with Christopher Auteri and Bryant Born winning 8-3 in Flight B doubles.
In singles play, Lehigh swept the Leopards as Wang started off winning 6-1, 6-4 and Cooper won 6-0, 6-2 in Flight A singles. Flight B singles saw Born win in two sets, winning the first 6-2 before winning 7-6 with a four-point tiebreaker. Elliot won a clean sweep in his match against Lafayette, winning 6-0 in both sets. Lehigh would see Fishkin win 6-3,6-0 and Martin-Dyer win 6-0, 6-2 to continue the winning ways in Flight C. Flight D proceed with Jacob Edelchik winning 6-1,6-0. Auteri swept his two sets 6-0, Andrew Nakhjavan won 6-2, 6-0 in his series with Lafayette and Sam Bencheghib won 6-3,6-0 to close out singles play.
Against Drexel, Lehigh went 1-2 against the Dragons in doubles play. With Flight A seeing Martin-Dyer and Edelchik losing 8-7(5) along with Cooper and Wang losing 8-7(4). Flight B saw Elliot and Fishkin win 8-5.
Singles play saw mixed results from both squads, with the Mountain Hawks going 3-4 overall. Flight A was split, as Wang won in three sets, after losing the first set 0-6, he came back to win the next two 6-3, 10-3. Cooper would drop his match against Drexel, as he lost the first set 3-6, before rallying to win the second set 6-4 and battling in a close 10-8 third set match he was unable to clinch. Flight B saw another split, with Elliot winning in three sets, 7-5, 2-6, 10-3 while Born lost in three, 3-6, 6-1, 10-7. Flight C went to Drexel, with Fishkin losing in two sets, 6-2, 7-6(6) along with a two-set loss from Martin-Dryer who lost 6-2, 7-6 (4). Lehigh won all four matches in Flight D, starting with Edelchik winning 6-1,6-0 and Autero winning 6-0 in both sets. Nakhjavan kept thing rolling with a two-set 6-2, 6-0 victory while Bencheghib finished things out with a 6-3,6-0 win.
Colgate was the last squad Lehigh faced, as the pair of Martin-Dyer and Edelchik won 8-6 to begin Flight A doubles while Cooper and Wang lost 8-6. Flight B saw Elliot and Fishkin pick up an 8-7 (8) victory along with the pair of Auteri and Born winning 8-6.
Lehigh would see great success against Colgate in singles play, with Flight A being swept by Wang (6-1, 6-4) and Cooper (6-4, 6-4). Flight B featured another sweep for Lehigh, with Elliot winning 6-4, 6-1 and Born winning 6-3, 7-5. Martin-Dyer would win in two sets 6-2, 6-3 along with Bencheghib winning in two sets as well 6-1, 6-3.
Lehigh will compete. In the Farnsworth Invitational in Princeton, N.J for their next tournament, as that will go from Friday, October 5 through Sunday, October 7
