BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Lehigh men's golf team entered the final day of the Patriot League Championship just three strokes off the lead, but the Mountain Hawks shot 308 Sunday on the Grace Course at Saucon Valley Country Club, their highest round of the weekend, to finish in fourth place.

Sophomore Ryan Kelly earned his second straight first team All-Patriot League honor with a third place individual finish, while senior Billy Johns tied for 10th to earn his first all-league medal.

Lehigh's final total of 907 (295-304-308) was 12 strokes behind Navy, which held off a Sunday charge from Army to win the team title at 895 (290-308-207). The Black Knights and Loyola tied for second place, three strokes behind the Midshipmen.

"The weather was tough, the golf course was extremely tough, and we just didn't play well enough," Lehigh head coach Henry D'Alberto said. "This one of the best teams we've had at Lehigh, but we just couldn't put it all together this weekend."

Navy freshman Charlie Musto shot 70 on Sunday and won the individual title convincingly at two under par 214 (69-75-70), six strokes better than Ethan Wall of Loyola. Musto earned the league's Outstanding Golfer and Outstanding Rookie of the Year awards.

Kelly's final total of 221 (72-74-75) was seven strokes behind Musto. Playing in the final group with Musto and Wall, Kelly was in second place through most of the final round, but was hurt by bogeys on 15 and 16.

"Ryan is a tough kid and a great competitor," D'Alberto said of Kelly. "Last year he was Rookie of the Year and this year, finishing third, he's just getting better and better. In the future, this is a tournament he could win."

Johns was one of 12 second-team All-Patriot League honorees as part of an eight-way tie for 10th place at 12 over par 228 (76-75-77). He also had a solid round spoiled at the very end as he was one over par through 15 but was four over par over his final three holes.

"Billy's a great player," D'Alberto said. "It's took him a long time to get here but I'm glad he was able to finish top 10. It's a nice way to finish his career."

Sophomore Owen Quinn and junior Johnny Hsu both shot 79 on Sunday and tied for 20th place at 230.

Juniors Eamon Marone and Max Redetzke also both shot the same score on Sunday, 78, and finished tied for 37th place at 238. Redetzke carded three birdies in his final round to lead all Lehigh players.

Lehigh loses just one senior from its 2017-18 team (Johns) while its other five championship entrants return.
