BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Prior to last weekend's Brown and White Spring Game, the Lehigh Football Partnership welcomed back alumni for its annual Career Night, Friday April 20 in Lehigh's Perella Auditorium. Nineteen Lehigh football alumni returned to campus to connect with current team members in an event that featured personal reflections from alumni about their Lehigh experience, as well advice for the current Mountain Hawks on life after Lehigh.
The career night agenda featured introductions from the alumni in attendance followed by a breaking down into three groups for the current crop of student-athletes to rotate through. The three rotations covered the Finance and Healthcare industries; Construction, Real Estate and Engineering; and Sales, Marketing and Legal.
The alumni shared their own personal stories from their days at Lehigh to where they are today, while also explaining the tools and tactics necessary to make a successful transition from Lehigh to the working world.
(4/26/2018) Football Partnership Career Night 4/18
"We talked about how you can really leverage the Lehigh football network and leverage the football experience to find a great career," said Randy Williams '93. "We heard a lot of great stories and the general theme was: how the Lehigh network and especially the Lehigh football network played a big role in where guys have gotten to today.
"It's amazing with the resources that the kids have today and even better that they are taking advantage of them," Williams added.
This year's career night differed from previous years in that it was more educational and allowed every student-athlete to be exposed to all of our alumni and their various industries.
"I have gotten to know many of the alumni over my couple of years here," said rising senior quarterback Brad Mayes. "It was interesting to hear many of the different perspectives the alumni have and the stories and experiences they have. It was good for our team to come out and hear what the alumni had to say and maybe take one or two things away from tonight as advice to use moving forward."
"Our alumni have always been a big part of our family and it is great to have those men come and spend time with our players and really explain and share what following your passion in the working world takes," Lehigh head coach Andy Coen added.
One of the main objectives was to challenge the notion that just because you pick one major, you have to spend the rest of your life in that field. The Lehigh Football Partnership wanted student-athletes to see that no matter what their major may be, Lehigh football alumni have gone on to be successful in a variety of different fields.
"We had the chance to connect with the kids to help them see how special their experience was and what it can mean to a potential employer and their success in the working world," said Hector Martinez '95. "It was a great experience for all who attended with the added bonus of spending some quality time with the kids, coaches and my old teammates."
The Lehigh Football Partnership would like to thank the alumni who helped make the career night so successful:
The mission of the Lehigh Football Partnership is to provide a framework and support system that will enable our former football student-athletes to remain connected to the Lehigh Football program, and to do so in manner that is fun and impactful.
