Miles Captures Title; Fennell, Herb Earn Major Awards on Final Day of PLC

ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The Mountain Hawks capped off the final of the Patriot League Swimming and Diving Championships with another champion and a pair of major award winners. The women's team finished third for second-straight season with 543 points, the highest point total since recording 637.5 points when they won the title in 2001. The men placed sixth in the final team standings with 282.5 points. The men have finished sixth or better in all 28 championship meets.
 
Head Coach Rob Herb earned the title of Patriot League Women's Coach of the Year for the second-straight year and the third time in his career. He led the women's team to four total titles at this year's championships, including the program's first diving title. In addition to the 200 freestyle relay title, the women totaled three individual titles, the highest total since winning three in 2000.

Freshman Megan Fennell capped off a stellar rookie campaign as she was named the Patriot League Female Diver of the Meet, the first to earn that honor in program history. The freshman is also just the second Patriot League major award winner in program history, joining Lauren Ayres who was named the Female Swimmer of the Meet in 2000.
 
Fennell became Lehigh's first female Patriot League champion diver in program history when she won the 1-meter dive. She capped off her weekend by reaching the podium again in the 3-meter dive as she placed third with a score of 266.25.
 
Sophomore Payton Miles captured her second league title and her first in the 100 freestyle as she posted a winning time of 50.04. Her time set a new school record, lowering the previous mark of 50.29 set in 2015.
 
The day began with the 1650 freestyle as last year's champion Meghan Thompson placed fourth in the event with a time of 16:49.54. Tori Connolly placed 11th, Samantha Gallego took 13th and Abby Thomson placed 15th as each scored points for the team.
 
On the men's side, had seven swimmers score points in the 1650 free. Walker Wilson led the way as he placed fifth with a school record time of 15:31.83, lowering the old time 15:36.13 set in 1994. Kevin Fleck placed 7th, Nico Lastauskas came in 10th, Collin Hanlon placed 11th, Greg Gardner took 12th, Matt Feryo placed 13th and James Mauk rounded out the group of point scorers by placing 15th.
 
Rachel Rider led the way in the 200 backstroke as she placed third with a school record and NCAA B-Cut time of 1:58.86. Kate Bergin scored points in 14th, while Anna Francisco (15th) and Nicole Shek (16th) also scored.
 
Dean Shafritz (11th), Mauk (13th) and Feryo (16th) all scored points for the men in the 200 backstroke.
 
In addition to Miles' title the women had a strong showing in the 100 freestyle as Julianne Koch placed third, Courtney Ferreira placed sixth and Ann Foley rounded out the group in seventh.
 
Sydney Bornstein led Lehigh in the 200 butterfly as she placed fourth. Bergin (13th) and Malia Wolf 14th) also scored points.
 
The day ended with the 400 freestyle relays. On the women's side, Foley, Miles, Koch and Thompson teamed for a second-place finish with a school record time of 3:19.78. For the men, Wilson, Teddy Smith, Kian O'Brien and Zach Tieke combined for a fifth-place finish.
 
In the women's standings, Navy captured its seventh-straight title with 904.5 points. Army placed second with 568 points. On the men's side, Navy clinched its 14th-straight league title with a score of 990.5. Army placed second with 780.5 points and Bucknell finished third with 411 points.
