"I thought our defense played a terrific game," said Lehigh head coach Jill Redfern. "Our draw team was excellent today and gave us lots of possessions. Their zone gave us some trouble, which is something we'll need to sort out a little better and execute a little more on Tuesday night, but it was an excellent team win."
Â
Senior Allison LaBeau led the offense with five points behind three goals and two assists. She has now tallied five or more points in nine straight games. Sophomore Kellie Gough scored three first-half goals for her first-career hat trick while senior Lauren Beausoleil scored three times to reach 100 career points. Sophomore Courtney Henig also had five points behind two goals and three assists.
Â
Defensively, senior goalkeeper Taylor Tvedt finished with 11 saves, nine coming in the first half. Beausoleil added a game-high five draw controls along with a groundball and two caused turnovers. Junior Alexis King shut down Bucknell's Christina Manis, who entered with 33 assists in 15 games, holding her without a point while King was in the game. Manis tallied a late assist after Lehigh's bench had been cleared.
Â
Gough scored Lehigh's first two goals, just 31 seconds into the game and with 16:07 left in the first half, to give the Mountain Hawks a 2-1 advantage. The teams traded goals until later in the half when Lehigh scored three times in the span of 1:08, from LaBeau, Gough and Beausoleil, turning a 3-3 tie into a quick 6-3 lead. Henig added her first of the game in the final minute of the first to give the Mountain Hawks a 7-3 halftime advantage.
Â
Lehigh's run continued in the second, scoring the first five goals of the stanza to extend its run to 9-0 before the Bison scored a late goal to pull within 12-4 at the final horn.
Â
Final shots were 25-21 in favor of Bucknell while the Bison held a 23-16 advantage in groundballs. Lehigh finished with a 13-5 edge in draw controls.
Â
The third-seeded Mountain Hawks will now play in their fourth straight Patriot League Tournament on Tuesday when they host No. 6 seed Bucknell on Tuesday at 7 p.m. Tickets are now available and can be purchased, here.
Â
"I'm proud of this team," said Redfern. "They're deserving of the No. 3 seed. We're excited to be home and I think it will be a really competitive game. Now is the time when you need to be your best. This team understands that. We're looking forward to playing our best lacrosse coming up."
