BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The Lehigh women's lacrosse team will wrap up its regular season Friday at Bucknell in a game that has seeding implications for the upcoming Patriot League Tournament. Opening draw against the Bison is set for 6 p.m. in Lewisburg, Pa. and can be seen on the Patriot League Network. If the Mountain Hawks win, they will be the No. 3 seed and host Bucknell in the Patriot League Quarterfinals. If Lehigh loses, it still has a chance to host a quarterfinal contest, but it would depend on outcomes of Saturday's other contests.
Lehigh struggled in its last outing, falling to Colgate 13-8 at home. The teams traded goals early in the first half, but the Raiders used a 5-1 run to end the half to take a 7-4 advantage. Lehigh cut the lead to as little as two midway through the second half, but Colgate ended the game on a 4-1 run to pull away. Senior Julianne D'Orazio was all over the field, recording three goals, three groundballs, five caused turnovers and five draw controls. It was her season high in draw controls and tied for her season high in caused turnovers. Classmate Allison LaBeau recorded a goal and five assists and is now 10th in the nation in points per game (4.87). LaBeau broke her own single-season Lehigh assist record (34) and is now up to 39 this year. On Monday, she was honored with Patriot League Attacker of the Week, her second award of the season and seventh weekly award of her career. Meanwhile, junior Haley Wentzel had two goals last Saturday as well and is up to 33 on the season.
Following the loss to Colgate, the Mountain Hawks are 10-5 overall and 5-3 in the Patriot League, currently tied for third place, but they're tied with both Boston University and Lafayette who they've beaten. Behind LaBeau's team-leading 73 points, sophomore Courtney Henig is currently second with 41 (17 goals, 24 assists), while D'Orazio has a firm lead in both groundballs (44) and caused turnovers (31). Senior goalkeeper Taylor Tvedt has a 10.24 goals against average and .469 save percentage.
Bucknell is 9-6 overall with a 4-4 league record, losing back-to-back games to Loyola and Navy. Sophomore Audrey Walsh leads the Bison in points with 26 goals and 19 assists, and senior Maddy Molinari leads in goals with 35. Molinari is also 21st in the country in draw controls per game at 5.13. Senior Annie Gilbertson has a team-high 29 caused turnovers and is tied for the team lead with 32 groundballs. Jamie DeWitt has started all 15 games in goal and owns a 9.84 goals against average and .439 save percentage.
The Mountain Hawks hold a 28-12 all-time series lead against the Bison, winning 12-11 last year and seven straight against them overall.
Following Friday's game, Lehigh will take part in the Patriot League Quarterfinals on Tuesday, marking its fourth straight postseason appearance.
