Mountain Hawks fall to Colgate, 13-8 on Senior Day

4/22/2017 4:51:00 PM | Women's Lacrosse

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Colgate used a 6-1 run to turn a 3-2 Mountain Hawks' lead into an 8-4 Raiders' advantage as the Lehigh women's lacrosse team (10-5, 5-3 Patriot League) dropped a 13-8 final on Senior Day Saturday. Seniors Julianne D'Orazio and Allison LaBeau combined for five goals and five assists on the day, but Colgate goalkeeper Asil Asfour impressed with 13 saves, denying several strong Lehigh opportunities.

"We didn't get any momentum," said Lehigh head coach Jill Redfern. "I don't think our team came to play today. Colgate had a good plan for us. They shut off Courtney (Henig) pretty well, which made it hard for her to feed. We also had an uncharacteristic number of turnovers that added up."
Seniors D'Orazio, LaBeau, Krista Dampman, Taylor Tvedt and Lauren Beausoleil were all recognized on Senior Day prior to the final regular season home game.

"They're a tremendous class," said Redfern. "They've put in so much work since they were first-year players. Our tournament appearances and our record are a direct correlation of our seniors, how hard they work and just the types of players and teammates they are."

LaBeau's first assist on Saturday was her 35th of the season, a new school record. LaBeau is currently up to 96 career assists, also a school record, which is tied for fourth in Patriot League history. Her 39 assists this season are seventh in league history.

LaBeau assisted on all four of D'Orazio's goals as D'Orazio tallied her ninth straight multi-goal game. She owns five hat tricks and 29 goals in that span. Junior Haley Wentzel also scored twice while sophomore Courtney Henig had a goal. Lehigh caused 17 of Colgate's 22 turnovers, led by five from D'Orazio who also had five draw controls and three groundballs. Junior Kierstyn Voiro tallied three groundballs and three caused turnovers.

Two straight D'Orazio goals gave Lehigh an early 2-1 lead. After trading goals, the Mountain Hawks staged a 4-0 run. Colgate scored just 2:29 into the second half to extend its run to 6-1 and give the Raiders an 8-4 lead.

Lehigh answered with three of the next four goals as Wentzel's second pulled the Mountain Hawks within 9-7 with 15:19 still remaining. However, the Raiders scored four of the game's final five goals to pull away for the victory.

Final shots were 34-28 in favor of Lehigh while the Mountain Hawks held a 21-19 edge in groundballs and 14-9 advantage in draw controls. Tvedt finished with six saves.

The Mountain Hawks wrap up their regular season next Friday when they travel to Bucknell to face the Bison. Opening draw is set for 6 p.m.
