WORCESTER, Mass. - The Lehigh women's lacrosse team outscored Holy Cross 10-1 over the middle 24:03 of Saturday's game, on its way to an impressive 10-3 road win in the Patriot League opener for both teams. Six different Mountain Hawks (5-2, 1-0 Patriot League) scored goals and the Lehigh defense continued to impress, holding an opponent to just three goals for a second time this season and in single digits for the fifth time in seven games.

The win came over a Holy Cross team riding three straight victories, which included an 11-10 win over Ohio State of the Big Ten. The Crusaders had scored 36 goals over their previous three games before Lehigh held them to a season-low three goals on Saturday, also holding Holy Cross to just 17 shots.

Senior Julianne D'Orazio led the Lehigh offense with three goals and one assist, good for her third-career hat trick and first this season. She also led the Mountain Hawks in groundballs (6), caused turnovers (5) and draw controls (3). Classmate Allison LaBeau had two goals and an assist while Lauren Beausoleil scored twice as well.

"Julianne was the backbone of our win today," said Lehigh head coach Jill Redfern. "She made play after play for our team. Credit Coach Cermack's offensive game plan. Holy Cross' defense is tough to beat and the team executed our plan. Taylor (Tvedt) also had a big day in the cage."

Holy Cross opened the scoring at 15:08 of the first half, but the Mountain Hawks ended the half on a 4-0 run, with four different goal scorers - LaBeau, D'Orazio, Beausoleil and sophomore Courtney Henig. Lehigh went into halftime leading, 4-1.

The Crusaders pulled within 4-2 less than 30 seconds into the second, but Lehigh responded by reeling off six in a row to put the game out of reach. The run began and ended with goals from D'Orazio while Beausoleil, LaBeau, freshman Sondra Dickey and junior Haley Wentzel tallied goals as well. Holy Cross had the game's final marker, with 7:26 remaining, to pull within 10-3 at the final horn.

Final shots were 38-17 in favor of Lehigh while the Mountain Hawks held a 20-14 edge in groundballs and 9-6 advantage in draw controls. Senior Taylor Tvedt posted eight saves for Lehigh across Holy Cross' Julia Maloney, who had 14.

The Mountain Hawks now head home to host Columbia on Wednesday at 7 p.m. Lehigh will return to Patriot League play next Saturday (Mar. 25) when it travels to American University to face the Eagles. Opening draw is set for 1 p.m.
