Lehigh Swimmers and Divers Find Continued Success at Patriot League Championships

RESULTS
LEWISBURG, Pa. – The Lehigh men's and women's swimming and diving teams concluded day three at the Patriot League Swimming and Diving Championships on Friday by lowering three more school records and reaching one more NCAA provisional mark. The men sit in fifth place with 228.5 points and the women rank fifth with 323 points.
The night began with Kate Bergin placing sixth in the 400 IM finals with a time of 4:29.29 and Abby Thomson placing 12th overall and scoring points in the consolation finals with a time of 4:27.97.
In the men's 400 IM, Jacob Moyar battled through a competitive field of opponents to place fifth with a NCAA B-Cut mark of 3:54.30. Justin Kostelnik also came through with points for squad as he placed 12th. For Moyar, this is second NCAA B-Cut time of the week and was one of five swimmers to make the NCAA provisional cut in the 400 IM at the Patriot League Championships.
Kelly Carroll grabbed the first individual school record of the day and her second of the week as she placed third in the 100 butterfly. Carroll posted a time of 55.22, which lowers the old school record mark of 55.22. Freshmen Nicole Shek and Audra Smires also scored points for the Brown and White by placing 13th and 14th respectively.
Jimmy Davey represented the men in the 100 butterfly final session as he competed in the consolation final and placed 14th overall. His time of 49.84 just barely missed the school record mark of 49.02.
Another individual school record fell in the women's 200 freestyle with two swimmers competing in the finals. Meghan Thompson captured the school record, her second of the week, and placed third with a time of 1:48.25 to lower the old record mark of 1:48.44. Julianne Koch also placed in the finals by capturing seventh with a time of 1:49.95. Courtney Ferreira also scored points in the event by placing 12th.
Justin White represented the men in the 200 freestyle finals and placed seventh with a time of 1:39.82. Walker Wilson competed in the consolation finals and finished 14th overall with a time of 1:41.45.
In the women's 100 breaststroke, Allison Morel represented Lehigh in the finals and placed eighth with a time of 1:06.09. In the men's 100 breaststroke, Tyler Christ competed in the consolation final and placed 14th with a time of 57.68. Christ lowered the program's men's freshman record in the prelims with time of 56.93.
Shek and Rachel Rider picked up points in the 100 backstroke. Shek placed 11th with a time of 57.28 and Rider came in 12th with a time of 57.49. Dean Shafritz represented the men in the 100 backstroke and placed 13th with a time of 51.16.
In the evening's diving competition, Rayna Smilowitz made it on the podium for the first time as she placed seventh with a score of 230.20 in the three-meter dive. Smilowitz capped off an outstanding week in which she placed in two different events, including one podium appearance.
The women closed out the night in the 200 freestyle relay. The foursome of Payton Miles, Koch, Smires and Kaitlyn Ruffing placed third with a fast time of 1:32.71, finishing just off the school record pace of 1:32.10.
The men finished the night with an outstanding performance in the 200 freestyle relay. Jamal Willis, White, Moyar, and Zach Tieke teamed up to finish second with a time of 1:19.71. Their time broke the old school record mark of 1:20.05 and would have set a new pool record if not for Navy's winning time of 1:19.18.
The Mountain Hawks will return to the water tomorrow for the final day of 2017 Patriot League Swimming and Diving Championships. Preliminaries begin at 10 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. for the 1650 freestyle. Finals will commence at 6 p.m. and can be viewed live on Patriot League Network.
