Lehigh Women Fall in Challenging Test at Army West Point

RESULTS
WEST POINT, N.Y. – The Lehigh women's swimming and diving team suffered its first defeat since October 8, 2016 with a 170-128 Patriot League loss at Army West Point on Friday evening. The Mountain Hawks compiled six individual wins on the even and one relay victory against the Black Knights. Meghan Thompson captured two individual victories and also contributed to the team's lone relay victory on the evening.
The Lehigh women dominated the 200 freestyle by sweeping the top three spots, led by Thompson who won the event with a time of 1:52.85. Julianne Koch came in second with at time of 1:53.82 and Courtney Ferreira rounded out the top three with a time of 1:53.95.
Lehigh also looked strong in the 200 butterfly and took the top two spots in the event. Sydney Bornstein won the event with a time of 2:05.65 and Kelly Carroll placed in second at a pace of 2:06.86.
Kaitlyn Ruffing claimed the top spot in the 50 freestyle with a time of 23.66. Payton Miles came in third with a time of 24.20 and Amanda Zlotnikoff placed fourth at a time of 24.37.
Ruffing also took the top spot in the 100 freestyle with a time of 51.43. Miles again came in third as she posted a time of 52.65.
Carroll led all competitors in the 100 butterfly as she posted a winning time of 56.90. Bornstein placed second as she finished with a time of 58.51.
Thompson captured her second victory of the evening as she placed first in the 500 freestyle with a top time of 5:00.67.
The Lehigh women capture the top spot in the 800 freestyle relay as Koch, Ferreira, Carroll and Thompson teamed up for the winning time of 7:40.89.
The foursome of Rachel Rider, Allison Morel, Carroll and Ruffing led Lehigh in the 400 medley relay with a second place finish at a time of 3:57.14.
Cora Summerfield finished as the lead Mountain Hawk in the 1000 freestyle with a second place finish at a time of 10:37.09.
Ferreira led LU in the 100 breaststroke with a third place finish and a time of 1:08.43. Koch led the Mountain Hawks in the 200 backstroke as she placed third with a time of 2:06.06.
On the board, Rayna Smilowitz led the Mountain Hawks in the one meter as she placed second with a score of 205.05. Smilowitz also led LU in the three meter as she placed third with a score of 186.38.
The Mountain Hawks return to the pool on January 21 for a Patriot League dual meet at Bucknell starting at 1 p.m.
