Lehigh Women Defeat Bucknell; End 16-Year Drought

RESULTS

LEWISBURG, Pa. – The Lehigh women's swimming and diving team ended a 16-year drought with a win over Bucknell for the first time since the year 2000. The Mountain Hawks defeated the Bison by a score of 166.5-133.5, which is the first win at Bucknell since the 1998-99 season. Lehigh combined to win 10 individual events on the day and one relay event, with five Mountain Hawks winning two events each.

Meghan Thompson led off the individual events with a victory in the 1000 freestyle with a time of 10:17.38. Cora Summerfield came in third with a time of 10:36.62.

Thompson also placed first in the 500 freestyle as she recorded a time of 5:06.24 to win by over five seconds. Tori Connolly came in third with a time of 5:12.22 and Summerfield placed fourth at a pace of 5:13.87.

The Mountain Hawks went one-two in the 200 freestyle as Courtney Ferreira captured first place with a time of 1:52.63. Julianne Koch came in second with a time of 1:52.97.

Lehigh also took the top two spots in the 200 butterfly as Kelly Carroll recorded the winning time of 2:03.84 to edge out Sydney Bornstein who placed second with a time of 2:03.94.

Carroll also claimed a win for Lehigh in the 100 butterfly with a time of 56.59. Bornstein came in fourth place with a time of 58.71.

Kaitlyn Ruffing and Payton Miles combined for the top two spots in the 50 freestyle. Ruffing won event with a time of 23.34 and Miles grabbed second with time of 23.95. The duo also combined to go one-two again in the 100 freestyle as Ruffing took the top spot with a time of 51.14 and Miles claimed second with a time of 52.29.

Rayna Smilowitz swept both diving events on the day as she began with a score of 200.78 in the one meter dive. Smilowitz then posted a new season-high score of 236.55 to win the three meter dive competition.

Ferreira also claimed a victory in the 200 IM with the team's season-best mark of 2:07.02. She also led Lehigh in the 100 breaststroke with second place finish at a time of 1:06.85.

The Lehigh women claimed their final victory of the day in the meet's last event as Koch, Thompson, Amanda Zlotnikoff and Ruffing combined to win the 400 freestyle relay with a time of 3:30.15. The foursome of Miles, Audra Smires, Carroll and Ferreira came in second place by a slim margin with a time of 3:30.72.

Nicole Shek finished as Lehigh's top performer in the 100 backstroke as she placed third with a time of 58.54.

Koch finished as Lehigh's top performer in the 200 backstroke with a third place finish with a time of 2:04.71.

Allison Morel scored valuable points for Lehigh in the 200 breaststroke as she led the team with a second place finish with a time of 2:25.56.

The Mountain Hawks closeout the regular season when they return home to face Drexel in a non-league dual next Saturday at 1 p.m. at Jacobs Pool.
