2017 SCHEDULE - 2017 PATRIOT LEAGUE PRESEASON POLL
BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Sunday will mark the beginning of the 2017 spring season for the Lehigh women's tennis team as the Mountain Hawks will host the Cyclones of Iowa State at 11 a.m. inside the Lewis Tennis Center.
Lehigh garnered the fourth spot in the 2017 Patriot League Women's Tennis Preseason Poll after finishing fifth in the regular season standings last season. The Mountain Hawks welcome back seven players from last year's squad, including all six starters from last spring. Lehigh will look to rely on an experienced group of veterans, combined with an infusion of new talent from the freshman class to carry the team towards success in the spring.
"This is a tight knit group that is eager to get out there and represent Lehigh on the tennis court," stated Howard Talmud '77 Head Coach Wouter Hendrix. "The leadership, dedication, and positive energy of this group are three qualities that really stand out to me. They truly want to continually improve and make each other better every day."
Two-time First Team All-Patriot League honoree Christina Auyeung returns for her junior season. Auyeung posted an overall record of a 11-6 last spring at No. 1 singles with a record of 5-3 in Patriot League play. Junior Briana Maravich also returns to the squad after recording a team-high 12 wins in singles play last season as she went 12-6 overall with a 5-3 record in league play. Kirstin Godau also returns to the lineup for her junior season and is coming off a strong fall season. Godau posted an overall record of 11-5 last spring in singles play and contributed to 11 wins in doubles competition.
Seniors Jamie Campisi and Cassidy Cruz have been named captains for this season and will strive to push this team towards success in 2017. Both Campisi and Cruz are coming off 10-win seasons last spring and are looking to be big contributors again this spring. Cruz will look to carry the momentum of winning titles at the Lehigh Invitational and Patriot League Kickoff this past fall into the upcoming spring slate.
Freshmen Sibel Can and Leigh Friedman are both coming off a fall season where they produced strong performances and gained valuable experience in each the team's competitions. Both Can and Friedman should contend for spots and be key pieces in both the singles and doubles action this spring.
"Everyone on the roster trains with the mindset that their number will be called upon," said Hendrix. "Our returning veterans are chomping at the bit to give it all they have. Our freshmen are already embracing and contributing to our team culture, so I anticipate them to be strong ambassadors for our program."
The Mountain Hawks will face a total of 11 non-league opponents this season and will have six duals against Patriot League opponents. Lehigh has 11 total home dates scheduled on the spring slate, in addition to hosting the 2017 Patriot League Women's Tennis Championships on April 27-30 at the Ulrich Varsity Courts.

The Mountain Hawks will open their Patriot League home slate with a matchup against Navy on March 25. The final league match of the season will be against archrival Lafayette at 3:30 p.m. on April 17 at the Ulrich Varsity Courts. Lehigh will close out the regular season with a non-league home match against La Salle on April 22.
"Schedule wise, this is arguably the tallest order this team has had to face in recent history," stated Hendrix. "Iowa State will be a tall order, as will all the other non-conference teams we face. We are aware that there will be challenges, but we see these as learning opportunities and chances to grow as a unit."Â
